CONSCRIPT

A Classic, inspired by the Classics

Conscript is a game that sets out to do one thing and does it very good. It wears its inspirations on its sleve with pride and they are obvious from the moment you start the game. If you like the classic survival-horror genre then Conscript is for you. However, you need to know that Conscript is not a "horror" game per se, it has more of a psychological fear ambience to it, with the visuals, sound and setting all working together to transmit the horror, sadness and brutality of the war. You don't fight monsters that are of fiction, you fight very real monsters: Humans. Conscript relies heavily in backtracking and exploration to reward you, some times it gets a little bit too promiennt but this is done so that you have a reason to go back and forth through the haunting scenarios which show the destruction, death and putrefaction that was present in a battlefield. The story tells us about two brothers that lived in the country side with their mother, their dad died and now they are both in the front lines and you are trying to keep both you and your brother alive through this endeavor. The story is personal, deep, and meaningful. Combat is slow, and purposelly "clunky", in the sense that you have weapons that have slow shooting, bolt action riffles, pump shotguns, a pistol, and melee weapons. Knowing when to use each weapon, to use ammo, what to carry and what to leave, it all comes to play into combat . As you would expect of the classic survival-horror genre. Inventory management is limited, important and you are cosntantly figuring out what to carry. If you want to keep as much stuff available as possible then you will be constantly going back to the storage. Discarding things makes them dissapear and can't be picked up back again, which makes knowing what to pick up and where you left it important. Overall, Conscript does what it said it was going to do. A 10/10 from me.

Tunguska: The Visitation - Enhanced Edition

Buggy, Messy, Janky, Dumb

This game is everything a game shoulnd't be. It starts good, keeps it up for a while and then it goes to hell. Oh, in a shootout? Well, it's a shame now yout enemies can go through walls! Surprise! Oh, want to pick an object? Here, why don't you better look at your character doing a hundred 360's in place instead. Oh, want to throw a grenade? Too bad, it hit the wall and now is ricocheting throug the room, it's a surprise where it will go off! I had so many hopes for this game. Looked like Stalker but top down, and the idea is there, but the technical state of this game is an absolute shame. If my name was in this game's credits, I would sue for defamation.

Baldur's Gate 3

The Best CRPG of the Decade

I'm an old school gamer, with 20+ years of gaming experience. RPGs are my favorite type of game. I can say with complete certainty, even leaving the hype behind, that this game sets the bar absurdly high. I was one of the people who didn't like the fact that the game didn't looked AT ALL like a BG, but like a DOS 3, but they shut me up with the release. The game still doesn't look or plays like a BG game, but it's definitely not the DOS feel. It's something in between and it's enough to not be considered a bad thing. The lore is there, the story is there, the stakes are there. Leaving the title behind, there's nothing to complain. Take DOS 2 and expand everything tenfold, with the rules of D&D. There are amazing characters, the world is amazing, they understand the lore and the ruleset, and they know what makes a game fun. If I started saying everything I would never end, so take my word for it when I say, this game will be remembered for decades. If you like CRPGs, this is for you and skipping it would be a travesty towards your own self. tl;dr: Not exactly a BG game, but that doesn't really matter because the game is a 10/10. ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE.

Nox™

A Timeless Classic

This game comes from a time when "you're the hero of a fantasy world go and save it" was still not cliché, but still it has enough fresh and interesting things to cautivate anyone who pays attention and doesn't play it like it was a modern game or expect as such. Still this game impresses in the creativity department because of it's gameplay and world, it has many mechanics that even today are not common in games. It has a bestiary which you need to fill to gain info and advantages (like mind control) by collecting scrolls. The summoning/pet system is simple and useful. It has item durability, which makes you always consider having a spare weapon. There's tons of loot and things to buy. There are many side activities Entire towns to explore FREELY The world is populated and feels alive, an example of this is that when you walk past a tavern you can hear the peoples ruckus, but the moment you enter they shut up and look at you (as you would expect them to do when a stranger walks in) Exploration rewards you from things like experience to powerful spells/items. There are 3 starts but at a certain point the story is the same. I find this to be a Win because I hate having to play through a game several times to get the experience of all characters. I rather just experience the start again and if I like it I can simple get to that point and drop it if I'm not feeling the new class. Overall, this game is freaking amazin and kicks ass now as it did back in the day.

Indiana Jones® and the Infernal Machine™

Best Indy Game since 2Ds

This game is simply amazing, the story is interesting, the mechanics are fun, the maps are adventurous and with stuff to discover and every piece of gameplay feels rewarding and fun. I'd take this game a million times over Emperor's Tomb (which I regard as the worst of all Indy games), because it's simply superior in every aspect. If you want a fun and adventurous Indiana Jones game, with a good runtime (it's almost 20 hours depending on your style which is an absurd lot for a game of that time), interseting things to find, and interesting story and a simple yet entertaining gameplay then this is definitely the game for you.

Fabled Lands

A tabletop/gamebook inspired gem

I'm a sucker for old school hardcore CRPGs, including games like the good old Realms of Arkania. This game plays a homage to GameBooks, even based on one of the good old classics of the same name, and it does it beautifully. The game takes it's rules seriously and give you a huge amount of freedom to direct your story and get the consequences your actions deserve (unless youve got some sweet bonus on a skill check that gets you out of trouble and oh boy is it amazing). Overall, I'd say that if you like harcore, unforgiving old school CRPGs and/or gamebooks this is a must-buy, if you only like Ubisoft-style handholding games then this is not for you, but I recommend to give it a try so you might at least experience what an actuall RPG is supposed to be.

Cyberpunk 2077

Improved but not there yet

After many patches the game has improved greatly and is worth a buy at current deal price. But mind you this game doesn't feel finished yet. There are many bugs and issues with it that have been ignored over and over again, which makes sense given that this game was a sh*tshow on release but I still hope this other issues that indeed affect gameplay are resolved. Some of these issues include: -> Radio stops working just because -> Mission markers working incorrectly causing you to go in circles or having to exit a building to reset it. -> Minimap path marker acting weird. (This one is really minor but can get you easily confused due to the games verticality). -> AI Issues with the enemies -> The police is still not fixed, better spawning but still it doesn't work right. -> There are main missions that get easily bugged. In one of the last missions with the japanese guy (to avoid spoilers) the enemies suddenly went full murder machine but the mission still interpreted as if I was sneaking and had to complete the mission like that while I was getting shot from every direction. -> There are the usual bugs here and there in the open world, characters T-posing, citizens acting weird, cars suddenly jumping and crashing, and that sort of stuff. It can be ignored most of the cases tho. Overall, I commend CD Project Red's effort to fix the game but there is still a lot of work to do to make this game truly enjoyable. Sadly, the huge amount of features they removed are never comming back, just like my trust in them.

Steelrising

Best souls-like for PC not by FS

This game sets out to be a compelling souls-like but keeping the identity of the studio and being apealing for a broader audience than the original franchise from which it takes inspiration, and it succeds at doing so. Steelrising has an interesting, interconected, area-based world which is pretty as it is well thought to tell the story of what's going on. The story seems very interesting and is bound to bring some twists here and there. Technically speaking is where this game has surprised me the most, it's refreshing to have a game be so polished and stable on day one. In all my hours of gameplay I've had 0 crashes, 0 framedrops and not a single game-breaking bug, all bugs encountered are minor visual ones that have 0 effect on gameplay. The gameplay itself is really interesting and if you wanted Bloodbourne for PC, then this is a good replacement for the time being. The combat is simple but fun, with not many damage types but all fun and interesting to use, many weapons of different kinds that make killing automatas amazingly fun. This game takes the best of soulslikes and mixes it with your usual action-RPG kind of game, making it accessible for far more audiences than your usual souls-like games, specially since this developer understood what make these games so compelling and beautifully translated it to their own style. All-in-all, a really fun game with good visuals and an incredible polishing by todays standards. If you like souls-likes then this is a must get. If you like action RPGs then this is definitely for you. If you don't like souls-likes I'd say it still will be fun for you since it irons out many of the usual rough edges this genre is known for.

Panzer Knights

Fun and Simple

Just finished several missions and I can say the game is really fun, but also really simple. There are a lot of tanks which is cool and you have different operators to buy (using the in-game currency called medals) with each one providing different benefits. Missions are pretty straight forward with secondary objectives to increase your medal revenue. The telling of the story is pretty cool and gives a nice perspective of the germans during WWII in an anime-ish way. The graphics are nothing to write home about, there are limited types of ammo and support options. But this game shines thanks to it's simplicity, it's a nice "hop-in have fun don't sweat it" experience with an animesque flavor. You want a single player WoTs that is simple? Then this is totally for you. Like tanks and war history? Then this is really for you. You are a AAA only player that can't enjoy a game unless you get motion sickness from all the flasy graphics? Then no, this ain't for you.

Baldo: The Guardian Owls

Refunded it

The game seems to have charm, but is a technical failure. First it ignored my generic controller which I use together with a controller emulator, so I switched to my Xbox controller, it got ignored too. But the game detects it anyway, even tho you can't use it, and as long as it is connected it will show the prompts for controller. I disconnected all controllers and decided to try using mouse and keyboard, which for a fixed camera game is pretty annoying but anyway I wanted to play the game, to my surprise not 2 minutes after that the game killed my keyboard, preventing me from doing anything with it, had to disconnect it and connect it again to close the game. All of this in the first 5 minutes of my experience with the game. It's just pityful. Had hopes for the game, but what good is a gem if it's at the bottom of an ocean of crap?
