As many other reviews have put it, this game is a bit of a mixed bag. Storywise, I would say this brought something more original than Call of Duty or Battlefield, that seem to get off to the idea of blind patriotism and paint the soldier as an unstoppable machine of patriotic pride against allll COMMIE INVADERS!! *ahem* sorry. Anyway, this game is different in that instead of the usual trope, the soldier is portrayed as a human being, who is fallible, and breakable. The way your team interacts with each other in cutscenes and other dialogue shows this. Besides that, the use of the Unreal Engine means this game still looks pretty good. It respond to Reshade pretty nicely, so if the default looks aren't to your liking, it's possible to change that up. Dubai is also incredible as a locale, with an impressive amount of detail and enough of a post-apocalyptic flavor to constantly put you on edge. The bad starts with gameplay. While gunplay is pretty good, the fact that one key is assigned to run, hide, and sometimes interact shows this game was console focused. While you can get used to it, I lost track of the times I ducked for cover and instead started running out into the open. Additionally, the story is very, very linear with how you interact with it. There are a few times where you are stuck doing heinous actions and the game will chastise you for it even though you couldn't do anything but that. Thats the good. Now on to the irritating. While the graphics hold up pretty well, a few minor details can really drive me up a wall. I am unable to enable MSAA in game or in my graphics card settings, so FXAA or SMAA are the only real options. Additionally, mouth animations may not look so bad in cutscenes, but if you look at your character in game when talking, The Secret World comes to mind. Overall, I'd say it's an reasonable shooter with an original story. I would recommend grabbing it on sale, before they do... Now on to write my memoirs...........AS A HERO!!!
