MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries

Like an Oasis in the desert...with camel drool clearly floating on top

I'm a battletech universe addict. I've rented mechwarrior on snes a lot, it was a revelation. Mechwarrior 2 a few times, felt more like a simulator then on snes. Mechwarrior 2:mercs was the real deal...Good story, felt like a sim, and a certain degree of freedom (the high point of the original mechwarrior on pc from what I saw...but then I played that one after mech3) Mechwarrior3 was a bit of a notch less excellent but in the same vein (xcept for liberty) Mechwarrior 4 vengeance and blacknight were a big let down... very arcadey, the felt less lime a mech simulator, more like shooter...story was VERY meh, missions not so interesting Mechwarrior 4:mercs gave us a much better experience, same mechanics but better story, missions and freedom. Mechwarrior 5... It's halfway between arcadey and sim-like. It feels like a big mech but... gee-wilikers, there's so many less controls now! I simply can't arrange the basic controls like I used to for 2-3-4 either. Also, the bloody weapons have seen their range drop, pretty much always a knife fight. But it still feels like mechwarrior, and to a new commer, well, who cares about the past? Combat feels good. Story seems lame, havn't gotten to it yet, but we've never had this much liberty on the travelling. For the modification of the robots, like on the weapon ranges, everything's been cut alot from what we're used...which I'm unsure off. I miss being able to do what I want with engines and all...but those modifications were unrealistic in past timeframes. After waiting for this for over 12 years, I was somewhat disapointed of buying this game at 50 something bucks (with dlc)...but once you're over the fact this is pretty much equal in fun and all as mech4:blacknight, you can't wait to have some time to play. Like an Oasis in the desert...with camel drool clearly floating on top

FTL: Advanced Edition

Wonderfull relaxing game after a hard days work

Sure, some might say its hard...once you get to the later levels, use the advanced features and want to win. But to me it's a good relaxation game for those times when I don't want to get involved. The basics are easy to catch on, the soundtrack does the trick as does the interface, more then enough variation of gameplay from one game to the other if only thanks to the wide selection of ships... A wonderfull little game, especially if you get it on sale.

BATTLETECH

This is why I bought My first computer since 2001

Hello, my name is Butchbird and I am a battletechoholic. *crowd* Hi Butchbird. So this brief intro does illustrate that I am biased...Still, this game would be fantastic even if it wasn't set in the battletech universe. Build up your lance, choose your contracts, modify your units, level up your pilots. Sudenly, travelling between two star systems, one of your top pilots comes in your office, gives you the whole "why am I still alive after seeing so many of my buddies die", you open up a bottle of brandy and tell em its gonna be alright. Sing up for an easy contract 'cause you need those 500k bucks to buy a new cannon...then one of the enemy units gets a lucky hit and your brooding pilot get sent to valhalla while you look in bewilderment. Then you resist the urge of reloading 'cause this chain of events was that damn awesome. This game cost me a new computer...and in 10 years I'll still be playing. A must have for gamers who like science fiction and strategy games involving few units.

Brigador: Up-Armored Deluxe

Good little shooter

Got this game for free, which might be why I'm rating this so high, still... When I downloaded it I tought I would just be launching it to see if it worked, saw the "tactical" description, tought this was one of those weird light rts which people play mostly on the net that I've never tried...Well, it wasn't like that at all but I played quite a few quick games since I got it. Actually it's a damnably fun little shooter, hadn't had this much fun with a little mindless game since "peggle 2". Of course the neon and action make it impossible to relax while playing, but the fact is I can play it when I don't want to concentrate (I mostly game in wargames and 4x types). Not recommended for those with epilepsie but a damnably fun little shooter.
