This seems as if it had games like Wing Commander and Privateer at it's center point of its creation. Using the Thrustmaster 1600t Flight Pack and everything works great except for the Throttle, but that seems to be a design flaw as every person who uses the same throttle as mine, can't get it to be a throttle. (i think its a space/air break). Key mapping isn't a problem except if you wanna map keyboard commands while using a stick. You have to nudge your mouse, then it goes into keyboard and mouse mode, then your keyboard commands work great. I tried programming keyboard commands while in stick configuration and they don't register. So, you gotta get a bit inventive if buttons are limited, but theres also a retical menue you can pull up, as well as pull up a map so you get an overview of the battle. This also works as your pause so you can plan things out, or take a break. So it seems to facilitate to lack of buttons while only in stick mode. So far, paied full price and not regretting it. Oh and you can add in your own playlist/music pretty easy to if you don't like the space western music already in, as well as it gives you the ability to use mods/plugins so you can probably compensate or improve the game already. My rating is based off native controls, not modded. So if your an old spacer like me, you'll probably enjoy this. If you expect things to just win cuz you have a new ship or think the native auto follow function will save you... :laughs in 90's dog fighting sims:

So I played this on Steam AND on GoG both at release, and now with the final update's out. The bad parts first, the game takes time. Most Story fights will take an hour or more to compleate. With that, most side missions can take 15 minutes to also an hour. The story is pretty streight forward. I'm an easy please so that don't bother me none...besides...this is giant mech's blowing things up. Do you REALLY need a complicated story with subtifuge, intrigue and betrayal all with a twist? No... you want giant robots shooting, razing, and slugging it out on the battlefield... also the story is squarely in the Inner Sphere. If you're looking for Clan stuff, it's not here. The great parts If you played the original table top version, you'll be right at home. The numbers are a bit 'off' from those values but that is because things are updated. The variaty has seem to hit pretty well now. When I first played, all I fought was Jenners and Locusts. Then somewhere, out of of nowhere, I started fighting Dragons and Stalkers. It seems there were some updates that threw in some different chassies and mechs from when I first played, and thats always good. Also some of the side missions got some variaty. On top of that, sometimes a mission will be 'kill this lance' and you get ambushed by a 'friendly' lance. So, you get your fair share of screw jobs. The other stuff... Now for some reason you'll almost always come out with an injured mechwarrior, a mech that took some crit damage and or lost a limb and need time to repair and heal. This CAN be avoided, but hey, for SOME reason you'll catch an LRM to the head. Now when I take into count ALL my drops, this actually happens maybe 10 percent of the time (or when im stupid) but it SEEMS to be 'all the time' as I don't need it to happen 'RIGHT AT THAT TIME'. So, I mark it as a good thing. Final peace, theres mods too, but use those at your own descresion. Id buy this if your into strategy or battletech.

If your looking for side scrolling soul like game, this is it, where numbers don't mean much and death is permenant. You'll have fresh recruits all the time, so don't worry. So, that means if you get attatched to easily, hold on to everything, or don't know when to run, unless you wanna work on those, this game isn't for you. Its tough, brutl sometimes, yet not too unfair. Brutal is taking hit after hit with little to no hope. Unfair is taking crit shot after crit shot while all you do is whif. (ok that happens but less often then you think. You'll have bad luck, you'll have flawless runs. Its the gambleres motto. Know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, and know when to run.

This was our choice entertainment. I've been searching for this off and on and always came up with the other title. So, insta buy, insta like. If you like turn based strategey with an element of RNG and great artwork. Dont wait. Especially if it's on sale. Speaking of, i'm 'getting the band back together' to have good ol chips and dip, moutain dew and hot seat marathon! ... tho in our age its gluten free veggie chips, low fat dip, and caffine/sugar free brown bubbly water.... this game was worth it for the life experience tho.

In a way, this was Dark Souls before people knew it existed. Unless I was playing a Warrior, I typicly die in the first level. Three skeletons will mess you up if you arn't careful! Welcome to Diablo, where if you get froggy, you'll die a painful death...hope you saved... cuz you don't get respanws. If you want to experience where the great adventure started, don't even restrain yourself and come adventure into the layberenth. With Hellfire you got four classes (Warrior, Rouge, Wizard, Monk) new spells (Like Search, something you get for free in D2/D3 by pressing tab or whatever) and buffs like increase accuracy or damage potions. Even tho its not an official expantion, its definatly in the same vein and light. I played and beat the original back in the day. I never knew of Hellfire. So I jumped in, and after playing for a few minutes it's feeling like days of old. I can tell the town interactions were improved, mainly walking around town. You gotta get used to the combat a bit, like clicking for attacks, but its solid. Theres enough lore in the game and manual to keep it going. Why people liked D1 and D2 so much, and kinda didn't like D3 as much. This is what started the whole genra for a lot of people. It was just known as hack n slash back then. Even now, people compare hack n slashes to Diablo. In ways, this game does better then some today...but that is DEFINATLY nostalga talking. Its a tight, polished game, and if you like challenges, then get this. Maybe GoG can get D2 DRM free, that would be great. :D

I played the piss outta this when I was kid. Trying to get the multipule endines, and seeing all it had. The FMV (as all other FMV titles) aged horribly. Yet seeing Malcom McDowel and Mark Hamel acting is worth the play in its own. This one you get to customize your load outs (even if Rachel gets pissed at you) and you have love interest. Like all other WC titles, it doesn't end if you fail a mission. You just go onto the next one. This is a great one, even if its a bit ... eh on the sound effects. I found myself getting more into WC 1 2 and Privateer fights then this one... but the story is good. EXPECIALLY if you played 1 and 2. This is a must! Anyway, its got it's nicks and dings, and aged about as well as that hot girl that went through 20 years of mixed substance abuse....but the real gem is the story imo and the character backrounds.

One of the first few games I know of that didn't have a real 'Game Over' title. Oh, its there but you gotta actually die. If you eject, you COULD die, or get picked up by the enemy, or SnR gets you and you play some more. Failed the over all objective? Failed to save that system? Guess what, the war still rolls on! Just because you fail, doesn't mean you lost the whole darn thing. Oddly, experencing the 'losing' path is something few people have experienced. Some missions you'll just fail, partly because your system (what it's limited to) won't be able to proccess so when you got 4 or more in the field of combat its gunna get slugish. If you know some DOS Box commands you can aliviate this, but I'd suggest only temporaraly. (Like that one where Confed steals a Kilrathi cruizer). Throw insults to get enemies to target you, give your command to wingmen to help you out (or send em home) and the best part, they can die! Watching a funeral still gets me nearly every time, and has been a staple in the WC series. If anything, it scratches that nostalga itch. If other reasons, it's IMO how games should be. Not always winning, isn't always bad.

I mainly played this for the historical reference of HOMM2/3 I played those two with my friend back in the day. I found this on a hell a good sale and picked up the whole series for 20 bucks or something (Thank you GoG.) Its a good playthrough and a bit tough if you don't know, or forgot how to play. Some units are absolute trash, while others are gods (almost litirally). Its all turn based so its great if you got kids or other responsibilitys. Music and SFX are great, no voice acting but you don't need it. Theres very slightly branching story (but thats REALLY streaching it) if you play as other lords. But for the most part, you will play nearly every map as a different lord, just in different starting positions. (Personally, I like Lord Slayer) If you find it on a sale, its a great buy.

Before Total War. Screw diplomacy, show your might through steel and stone! At the time, the graphics were great. The music and sound effects are still top notch. My kid likes to steal my head set and dance to the music. The voice acting is still on par with some things today. Nearly 100% voice acting, back in 90's! Mechanics wise, its a numbers game. Your pesants as the worst of the worst, and your mounted knights as the best of the best. Also, the CEO of Rebelion is streight up Nerd lord, check him out on Modern History TV. You'll be amazed (hopefully) I've spent 60 hours or so on steam playing this game and doing it all over again on GoG. I also beat the original back in 1998 or so. If you are unskilled with Real Time and Turn Based strategy, this game will test you. Overall, I can't give enough good things about this. The only bad things I can really say, is the AI is idiotic, everything you do pisses them off and eventually results in war. Auto calc battles is nice, except for Siege (actually should be assault but i digress) FORTUNATLY, unlike Rome Toal War 2 where it just takes numbers, it will take individual units into check. So you got 200 Pikemen go up again 49 pesants, you'll kill em with no losses. Tho, put those 49 pesants in a castle, and you'll suffer 50% or more losses, if not lose the whole thing! That is auto calc for you, so on 'major battles' you'll wanna command them The only other thing (modern day critique) is there are no mods. Everythings hard coded, but if you want that, just play Medival Total War. It's about as good as you'll get. Oh and if you wanna play Lords 3...save your self and play that first...or never...your missing 0 by skipping that one.

My brothers are 10 years older then me, and we all have different tastes. Ones a WW2 buff, anothers a music buff, then there is me who is into the medivle culture. My brothers are also into turned based. While I preferr the mix of turn and real time (Like Total War series or Lords of the Realm) This ... was the one game that got us to come together. Even tho I nearly always picked the rebles, and one of my brothers picked the gungans, and my other brother played 'Thrawn style Empire' (wasn't really a choice but its what he liked) this was the one game we could get together and play. Not so much compeditivly as I was more skilled, but it was nice to get on n play against a powerful AI opponent. Other then that, its quite litirally Age of Empires 2 with Star Wars paint. If you like Age of Empires, and you like Star Wars, you should buy this. Tho i don't have it (yet) its going in the library since my brothers have been wanting to play it again, since GoG now has it for the better price. :D
