Stargunner

One of the first games I ever got on PC

This takes me back. But for those who don't know, this is a really solid Shoot'em up. You had different campaigns that brought different kinds of enemies, you could upgrade your ship to your liking with money you'd get. Not to mention every stage is packed with small secrets. It looks nice visually using pre-rendered 3D sprites and the soundtrack is pretty awesome. For fans of the genre it's easy to recommend, if you're unfamiliar with this time of game give it a shot, you might be surprised.

Papers, Please

A surprising and unique little gem

I got this after seeing a couple of vids online and decided to try it out myself. It's interesting how it escalates from your first day on the job up to the tenth day and on. Since at first it'll seem like a game where you have to get used to a certain routine so minor details won't get past you and you'll get more money if you're fast enough, the further you get the more intrigue comes straight at your booth with some optional objectives that can reflect well or poorly upon you. From dealing with co-workers trying to cut a deal for some extra cash, organized crime which you decide to either act on it or not bother with it up to full-scale terrorist acts (Just keep an idea on that weight). And at the same time you're still enforced to keep up so you can get paid to provide for your family which also requires special attention, lest you want to end like I did in my first run. So far I only managed one ending out of 20 and that playthru got cut short after 2 hours since I screwed up. To close it up, this is a surprisingly thoughtful gem of a game, it's best suited for people who have patience and who are very detail oriented. And all the extra endings to the story mode is guaranteed to keep you coming for a while so you can try and figure out to do things in a different fashion.

Shadow Warrior Classic Complete

Fun, challenging and slightly offensive

I got this way back in 1998 and only managed to beat it on easy with an occasional cheat (Yeah I sucked at it back in the day). Playing it now the game is still as fun as ever, even with the humor being offensive to people from Asian descent . Personally I didn't really mind since I never really took it seriously. By overlooking it's sense of humor, you'll find a terrific game that's gory to a point that (as far as Build games go) could even rival Blood 1. Shadow Warrior is still a great challenge, the weapons are great and diverse which also gives you a variety of ways to approach enemies either directly or when you just know there are enemies lurking around corners and windows, you'll never feel helpless against them once you get your hands on most weapons. As I said the main campaign is pretty hard, so get used to make love with the quick-save key you'll need it to get past a few parts and bosses. Also it's nice that they added the expansions I never played them back in the day and it's a good thing in case you'll be wanting for some extra Wang after the main game. All in all, you'll still get a really good, lengthy game with awesome weapons that ended up getting overlooked in it's time due to it's humor and the rise of fully 3D shooters like Quake, Unreal and Half-Life.

Sanitarium

A mystery of the mind

Sanitarium was one of the first games I got on the PC, and it still remains one of the best point-and-click adventure type of game since then, the story leaves keeps you guessing what is going on, whatever or not the protagonist is insane, with each flashback being a small piece to understand who the main character is and why is he experiencing all the events of the game, which by the end comes full-circle and explains just about everything making a second play-thru even more enlightening than the first. It's truly an incredibly well thought out game, with an excellent and memorable psychological story-line that should not be missed.

Blood: One Unit Whole Blood

Bloody good time

Duke 3D may have kicked off the build engine, but Blood really shows what it was made off make in the day, this is an incredibly action packed with a few minor puzzles in between, horror themed shooter with a great sum of dark humor makes this a game worth getting. Weapons are great, ranging from Pitchforks, flare guns, Shotguns, Napalm Cannon, TNT and even a Voodoo Doll each having a secondary fire which was a very novel concept for shooters back in the day and the stages looked great and diverse and stage had it's own set of challenges to overcome either being facing certain rooms filled with blood thirsty enemies or gunning your way thru labyrinths. This is one hell of ride that oughta keep anyone busy for a while.
