What's more to say. Old school mechanics mixed with great atmosphere, beautiful graphics with a major attachment to details, very good soundtrack and characters you really like. Difficulty is perfectly balanced. First missions are easy enough so they won't discourage, and last missions are hardcore but you are already devoured by the story so much you just won't quit until your foe is taken down. I really hope they'll make sequel.
The multiplayer doesn't work which was stated at the top of reviews. I remember oceans of joy fighting against one another in DM, playing different species, or even struggling in co-op on "Stranded" map, and it's unavailable here which is very, very sad. Although I didn't stay longer than usual, this is still one of the best SC-FI games of all time and Rebellion did a good job with the crossover. Single Player levels are excellent and the game didn't lose all its charm. Besides I remember there were lot of problems with the Audio back those days but there are no technical issues here which is very nice. PS: GOG, I'm sincerely asking you... no... not asking. Begging! - Give us AvP 2! Such a gem and you can't get it these days.
One of the best games of my youth. I wouldn't mind if more of them were made on build engine nowadays. I love the design of expansion pack levels - especially the one on the plane. Difficulty level is also very well balanced. There are some minor freezes and crashes, but since this is a DOS version, it's really not a big deal. Especially when it's for free.
This is probably the best version of this game I've ever come across. In addition we have DOS version with enhanced AI and it really works - you can check it yourself during the first missions where we really have to struggle. Unfortunately time has taken its toll in this case. Although the game works stable, and I can say nothing wrong about technical issues, nostalgia just wasn't enough to get back to it. Units can block sometimes (especially harvesters, which is very frustrating), you have to check all the map all over again just to find one soldier to finish a mission (old scripts, old victory conditions) but the biggest flaw is how the game works. FPS drops down drastically later on and it just takes too much of our time to finish each mission. In those times games like Dark Colony or Red Alert worked a lot better.
