Moto Racer

I'm in the credits!

I may have to buy this game just so I can look at the manual. I was working at EA in Foster City (before they moved to Redwood City) and got to play test this game for 3-4 evenings. It was my first test gig. Actually I think it was just final (pre-shipping) testing just to find any last minute bugs. The one thing I will NEVER forget about this game is how HARD it is on the toughest difficulty level. I think the final track and the hardest level the only way you could WIN was to run a perfect race, never hit any obsticles and you had to use a manual bike, the auto-shifter just wasn't fast enough. Hard game, but immensely satisfying. Look for Andy O'Brien in the QA/Testing credits. I think I'm in there.

Ultima™ IV: Quest of the Avatar

Morals in a video game?

Compassion, Valor, Justice, Humility, Spirituality, Honesty, Honor, and Sacrifice. The first of 3 games in the Age of Enlightenment (Ultima IV, V, and VI) Ultima IV was really a mind blowing experience for me as a young gamer. I am not going into details because I'm too busy loading the game up, since it's free, grab it and try it out. There are lots of resources online that'll help you quickly play through this classic CRPG.

Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition

Wonderful title from yesterday...

Proving you need little dialoge to tell an amazing story, Another World. I picked up this copy of the game last year (original author was reselling it, or something) and I have to say the new engine runs beautifully in any Windows version. I went as far to run it on my HTPC (1080p, 42" set) and the game looks beautiful. I forget the graphic style, but if you consider the game came out 15 years ago I thought this game was a brief look at the future of gaming. The game itself plays like the original, very unforgiving, but figuring out each little sequence is challenging, and interesting, and occasionally frustrating. God that sentence is awful. OK Each "room" plays out like those laser disc games (Dragons Lair, Space Ace), if you mess up you die and have to play the room over. A lot of it is just good timing. Oh just play it, for the money it's a good game.
