Saints Row 2

You owe us, CD Projekt!

There is some misinformation that seems to be rampant particularly within the GOG circle that I'd like to call out: 1. No, the game is not fixed. It's playable, borderline, but performance is definitely not up to standard even compared to other games from that era. The GOG version is probably the most stable one and there is a mod for it called the Juiced Patch that will fix most performance issues and allow you to enjoy the game properly, however, that patch does not ship with the GOG version out of the box, is quite CPU heavy and does not fix everything, so claiming the game "works well" without mentioning that is misleading. 2. No, the DLC has not been ported to PC, the mission scripts are present in the game files and there is a mod that allows you to play them, but the actual content and assets that makes them unique is not available in the PC port in any shape or form. 3. A re-release is not in the works. There was a semi-official patch that was being worked on by a few Volition volunteers to fix the port properly and bring the DLC to PC, however, it's development has been such a monumental shit show that it's unlikely anybody feels motivated to work on it anymore. The lead developer on it died a while ago, the second-in-command managed to get himself cancelled by the community, the developer of the game was shuttered some time after, and the publisher is one foot in the grave as well. So needless to say everybody involved has bigger issues to worry about than fixing this game. Don't buy it expecting that to happen. That said, game is a broken masterpiece. You're basically gambling on whether you'd be able to play it or not, but if you're willing to roll the dice this is hands down one of the best open world games ever made. For those who don't know, it was CD Projekt who fumbled the PC port. If you decide to get it, kindly remind them of that every once in a while and maybe they'll decide to do something about it before the source code is lost again.

Fallout: London

Why is this on GOG?

When I first heard about it releasing on GOG I though it would be a standalone download, allowing users to install and play both Fallout London and the vanilla game separately from eachother. But downloading this through GOG is utterly pointless, it just downloads an installer, which you then have to run and install the mod over your regular Fallout 4 installation. It even states when you open it that you have to uninstall the mod if you want to play the vanilla Fallout 4 again. I'm sure it's a great mod and all but there's absolutely no reason for it being on GOG, it does not offer any convenience, it literally just adds a middleman between you and installing the mod directly from the mod team's web page.

Haunted House Renovator Demo

Avoid PlayWay / Image Power games on GOG

If they don't meet sales expectations they will become abandonware and the publisher will start "migrating" users to Steam and Epic. I'm surprised GOG even agrees to distribute their titles anymore.

Thief Simulator

Avoid PlayWay games on GOG.

Unless you want them to delist it and cut off all updates just to force their fanbase over to Steam.

Trail Out: Complete Edition

"We have Flatout 2 at home."

When I first got this game on Steam I thought it had a lot of potential. As far as the "vibe" goes it's the closest anybody has ever gotten to making a Flatout 2 successor, but unfortunately it has a lot of issues that the developers are unwilling to address because they don't rake in views on YouTube and Twitch as much as a 3rd person zombie survival shooter mode (for real) that nobody asked for. They're happy to accept feedback when it comes to which cars people want added in the game, but when it comes to quality of life or general improvements it's always lame excuses like "we can't spare the funds" or "it's too difficult". Whatever, here's short version since GOG can't spare the funds to increase the character limit either: Good: - The graphics are fine, about on par with most Unreal 4 games, though they don't really stand out in any way apart from the comically bad character models. - The driving and the crashes are actually quite nice, they feel pretty organic which is rare for modern racing games. - Decent car selection, reasonably varied. - Music is good, it's mostly royalty free bands like Onlap, but it's curated pretty nicely and fits well with the action. - Runs reasonably well. Bad: - Can't re-bind the controls, the director's excuse for this is that "it's too difficult to implement". (feel free to ask me for a source on that, GOG support) - Interface is horrendous, clunky and feels like it was designed with form over function. - The cutscenes and story are amateur grade, we're talking the type of stuff you would see in a bad Half-Life 2 horror mod, and I'm not exaggerating. Terrible even as far as racing games go. - Apart from the standard racing mode (and the basic derby mode) every other gamemode feels very out of place and poorly thought out, but with a strong visual element. It's very reminiscent of Yandere Simulator in that regard. - It crashes. A lot. - Track design is inconsistent, some tracks are way too long, others way too short. Avoid.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition

Seriously?

First, are they seriously going to make me buy the game and DLC again just to get "Ultimate" in the title? What is the point of this? Is it greed or is it meant to give them a clean slate with the reviews? Even EA isn't this lame. Second, you'd think that a physical edition with the game on disc would be a no brainer for a company that claims to be all about game preservation but I guess that flew out the window when Phantom Liberty launched with DRM. The Ultimate Edition is just a code in the box... what purpose does that serve? Garbage release.

World Racing 2 - Champion Edition

YES, more like this please.

It's good to see a new (classic) racing game on GOG. More like this.

Mafia: Definitive Edition

A waste of good assets.

I'm wondering what Hangar 13 actually developed for this game, because as far as I can tell a lot of it was carried over from Mafia 3, just with a Mafia 1 skin slapped on top: - The driving is straight out of Mafia 3, which wouldn't be a bad thing, except cars in this game are 100 years old, so having arcade, floaty handling like this makes no sense. And no, switching to Simulation doesn't fix that, I've only played it with Simulation handling. - Tommy's animations are copy-pasted from Lincoln, extremely jarring to look at considering they have completely different body types. - The guns also feel ripped from Mafia 3, they increased the recoil a bit, which actually doesn't play that well anymore since all the levels are designed like shooting galleries with waist-high cover all over the place. - The vehicle combat is terrible. They added a "ram" key which as far as I can tell does absolutely nothing, enemies are forced to rubber-band to you until you crash through some scripted NFS Most Wanted-style pursuit breakers that are very out of place in a game like this, the aiming feels broken and on top of that you rapid-fire revolvers while in a vehicle like you're using a machine gun. - The setting doesn't feel believable anymore. There are luxury cars spawning everywhere whereas in the original they were a rare occurrence, every shop now has a big neon sign out front, everything is over-saturated and squeaky clean like every other GTA-esque game released in the last 10 years... and all the while we're expected to believe the game takes place during the Great Depression. Yeah, good luck with that. - Runs and looks like crap, tested on 6700 XT and RTX 4070 Ti. Probably the worst thing about it though is the voice acting. It's amazing... but it's wasted on some of the worst character animations I've ever seen in a videogame. Whoever 2K outsourced the map, the car models and the casting to did a bang up job, seriously, but everybody else should be embarrassed.
