A Bird Story

Chinese childhood simulator?

School school school and homework until late at night even as a kid. Parents never at home. Work work. Kids are distant from one another. Even mean. Teachers and adults are overly strict. Need to escape from the grinding reality, using imagination. Feels like a chinese childhood simulator.

Feels very empty

So the main thing with this game is that you are free to explore India. You may go south, north, east or west, attend to school or find a job, commit crimes or be law abiding, you may join any represented religion. While traveling, you will visit real places and learn about them. Sure sounds interesting. The problem the game feels so empty. Sure, you could do this or that, but in the end none of it feels like it matters. I don't know. Maybe i didn't give it enough time. It just felt so empty to me that I couldn't justify continuing. Sure, you go different places, but they are all more or less empty anyway. As someone who has been a few times in India and other countries in the region and who enjoy learning about the culture, i thought this would be great but now I think I'd rather just read the book

Nice ending for a great series of games

Make sure to finish the games in order though.

Introduction to point and click

Remember when this released. Thought it seemed cool but never played it as it being a point and click discouraged me. During a work related quarantine, stuck alone in a hotel room january 2021 i finally played it through! 5/5, great introduction to the genre. Difficult but rewarding and in every sense a gem.

Avoided for a long time

Thought they seemed cheesy but they turned out to be great fun. Well worth the money as well. Each individual game is short but together they total around 12 hours. To go forward in the story you need to discuss with various characters. You rarely need to combine or give items to characters as often is the case in adventure games. Sometimes, you need to ask a question several times to get a truthful answer. That's something worth to remember, most of all for the second in the series.

BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION

Refreshing RPG / point and click mix

Varied, detailed and unique world. Could play through this again since there are so many different ways to progress. Probably wont though. Had a great time in post apocalyptic south africa. That’s enough for now.

A Golden Wake

Entertaining with nice choice of setting

Not a masterpiece or anything but a rather good p&c-game with an unusual setting. Not very heavy on puzzles. More of a narrative driven game. Worth to play through once if you like the sound of it.

CAYNE

Solid if you like p&c-games…

…but in case you don’t like them, this being given out for free wont change anything. Negatives. -It’s a bit too difficult at times. Especially the first room is a bit offputting i m o. -All the characters are lunatics. It doesn’t make any sense. Makes the story less belieavable. Plus. +Nice locations. +Good story and world building. +For free.

Suddenly the save file disappeared

Save file disappeared without trace. No big deal. I probably would not have finished it anyway. The game is bland and empty. Must have impressed a lot of people back then when arty games weren’t common. Playing it now though, ”impressed” would not be the word i’d describe my experience with.
