Baldur's Gate is sort of a pioneer in the RPG genre, and a title that is known for a reason among RPG lovers: playing through the game is almost like reading an interactive fantasy book -- its extensive dialogues, world, story, occasional humour and the gameplay are interesting enough to bind the player to the computer for long-long hours, days, even weeks... The game takes place on the Sword Coast, near to Baldur's Gate, the largest city around. The player and his/her childhood friend, Imoen, grew up in Candlekeep, an ancient fortress with Gorion, a mage as their guardian. The adventure starts when it turns out that some people have some dark plans with the player character, and Gorion decides to take him/her to a safe hiding place, therefore setting the player -- and eventually his/her allies -- on a long road full of monsters, magic, friends and foes... In addition te the exciting main storyline, the player is provided with a tremendous amount of sidequests, which add a lot to the atmosphere of the Forgotten Realms. It is hands down one of those games that shouldn't be missed by anyone who has an affinity for the RPG genre. Oh, and I almost forgot: "Go for the eyes Boo, GO FOR THE EYES!! :D"
