Successful Rarevival
To give what I'm going to say a little bit of context, I've played Rare's old games on the N64, and I loved them - scratch that - I still love them a LOT. (Main protagonists: DK64 & Conker's Bad Fur Day) Unfortunately, I never owned the other freaky duo's games, but I see a lot of it in this game - what a surprise, eh? I've been playing for a bit over 2 hours and this is what I've found out so far: Pros: - Beatifully crafted visuals, reminding me of Rare's old classics, just in HD of course :) - Nostalgic tunes, quite nice to listen to. - It's puntastic, I tell you! The humor is right up my alley with lots of terrible puns and wordplays. - Quite a few references and throwbacks. The Cons: - It seems to me that this game is targeted at a younger audience, since it sometimes seems a bit too childish for me. - Lots of handholding. I.e. text tutorials for most things, which you can't skip (it's done in a funny way, though, which makes it not suck as much). Also, there's these "I'll-show-you-the-way" camera swings. I really wish I could turn it off, since most "challenges" are quite easy to figure out. - The "voice-over" in dialogues is quite annoying, since it's kinda loud and not fluid at all (especially Quack and Capital B). Really wish it was like DK 64, where it's only at the start of a line. You can skip it by pressing A once, so it displays a whole line. Although that's only possible, when it's not a cutscene - why? - The camera control is frankly quite clunky when around walls or other obstacles. All in all it's quite an enjoyable experience - despite the cons section being larger than the pros - and I will definitely keep playing the game. It really looks, sounds and feels like a Rare game!
