Interesting but flawed

Sometimes fun gameplay and interesting story, but hampered by absolutely inept control and consistantly un-fun missions that consist of your six-ten units facing endless hordes of Soviets/Americans who always outnumber you by a factor of 300000. You are constantly tasked with securing multiple objectives at once, but the way the game plays taking your eyes off a unit for longer than one nanosecond basically ensures they will be blown away. It never feels like you are making progress towards an objective because enemy units will spawn infinitely and in great numbers until whatever mission trigger is hit. Tactical gameplay non-existant, but Cold War afficiandos will appreciate the attention to different NATO and Warsaw Pact vehicles, and as I said the scenario is pretty cool.

Solid RTS, even in 2024

Solid RTS with slightly over the top story. Unit structure is simple, paper beats stone, type of interactions. Graphics although dated, holds well. Plenty of additional stories, cutscenes and additional lore. Game was running smoothly on win11 with proper font and menu scaling on 1920x1080, however you need to use program Large Address Aware to patch exe game file. Otherwise this game will crash after first mission. I've only played Campaign, which took me ~15h to finish all missions and additional objectives. It got tedious towards the end with have overrelience on off-map arty and swarms of enemy tanks. Otherwise, a great title.

Easy to reccommend.

World in conflict just does everything right. It's a RTT (No base building or economy) with exceptionally smooth presentation and very intuitive punchy gameplay. The storyline is actually quite interesting and the campaign is one of th best.

One of the best RTT's!

I've played this game since beta testing before release, it is one of those obligatory play thru campaigns on an annual basis for me. The what-if setting, the graphics still hold up well, the game plays great, the story telling, etc. The only weak area IMHO is that the AI for MP is weak and the MP scene isn't what it used to be. Massgate.org has helped with that to varying extents, but peak MP in WIC is long gone. I really cannot think of another game that captures what this one has in a modern-ish warfare setting. Broken Arrow is reminscent, but is also its own thing. WIC came at a good time, and still really holds up to this day. If you haven't played it, and you love any kind of stragegy or RTT-style game, you're missing out, GET IT and enjoy! Even with the shortcomings, I still feel this is a 5/5 for what it offers, how it is offered. And once you patch for modern multicore systems it plays like an absolute dream.

Oh well...

The most important thing to do: \Documents\World in Conflict\Game Options.txt Set "myDX10Flag" from 0 to 1. Make the file write protected, or else the game will set it back to 0 !!! That's why the game crashes all the time, done it and it works fine. THere is no problem with the game, but with it crashing all the time... hence only 3/5. --__--
