Wing Commander™ 1+2

I originally got a PC in 1991 and one of the first games I got hold of was Wing Commander with the mission packs. Just going into the store and seeing the jaw-dropping graphics and *gasp* speech was enough to excite and 16 year old gamer. I installed the game and pretty much spent every waking moment playing through the fantastic story-based missions. As you'd expect, the game is 20 years old and graphics have dated but that is why we're here at GOG. Not because of the graphics (although they help) but because the games are still great! This one is no exception. Nice, simple controls leaving you with simply getting on with the missions. This game kept me coming back for more and its arrival on GOG is both overdue and very much welcome. $6 for both classic games? Guaranteed hours upon hours of fun gameplay with a great storyline? What are you waiting for? Add it to your cart and get buying!

Absolutely wonderful pack, a deal like this is unavoidable: you can't miss it. I remember being that little kid in love with science fiction who discovered this game at a friend's house. The next day I went to spend every single lira I had in my pocket on a copy of my own. It gifted me with absolute immersion, great space simulation, a feeling of wonder and excitement in the foreshadowing of the next battle... Does it make me too old to say that I really miss space combat simulation like this? Nowadays they're not here anymore... I wonder why O_______O

The two first titles are starting to get very old, but what is amazing is that you can still feel a good pseudo 3D gameplay there, that has sense even if you are used to actual games. I don`t give the pack five stars just for this, because it´s kinda complicated at the begining configurate a nice good controls scheme (i used the Xpadder and Xbox controller) and at least WC1 has some perfomance problems in my computer, it has slowdowns sometimes. WC2 works perfect. A good thing is you can configurate DOSBOX in the two games so you can scale the resolution, apply filters like supersai or xmame, vsync, and others... that make the experience much better nowadays.

No other game and game series had as much of an impact as this. I owned this before I owned my first PC. I played it on other peoples' computers while I had owned an Amiga 500. Now if they could just get Privateer 2 and WC 5 rendered....
