Quick thoughts:

- Very funny. - Relatively fast paced. - Funny does not necessarily mean easy. - Very accessible even for casual, and first time RPG players. - Played like half a game before realizing that you can jump. - Not well balanced but it’s not a real issue as you can grind XP and money(meat). - The comedy as good as it is, is the only thing keeping the game together. Funny. Works on Linux

If you've ever played Kingdom of Loathing... well, then you probably know about what to expect. Some similarities that you'll learn in the first few minutes: Meat is still the currency, still stick-figures, still Muscle/Mysticality/Moxie-based classes. Some differences you'll learn in the first few minutes: unlike KoL you're not limited by adventures per day, your character is animated/moves around If not, KoL is a free online game but you are limited in turns per day. This you pay up front but can play as much as you want. Other: If you are playing on Linux and the shortcut/launcher for this game appears to do nothing, as mine did on Fedora 37, you can fix this very easily. Simply open the game's install dir then into the "game" subfolder and find the execuable "West of Loathing.x86_64". You need to set the executable bit so it can run. You can do this graphically from your file manager (in Cinnamon desktop: right-click > Properties > Permissions tab > check the Executable box on the "owner" row). Or from terminal, run chmod u+x 'West of Loathing.x86_64' The launcher shortcut / game should work perfectly after that

I love these guys

I love Kingdom of Loathing. I played a lot of Kingdom of Loathing way back in the day. I thought I would love this. I kinda did. Kinda... I think I'm just too old and this game is too much "of the age" for me to get really into it. I think they nailed it, and I love their work. I'm absolutely pleased as punch to own the game, but I just couldn't get into it like I did with Kingdom of Loathing.

Funny, compelling, runs on Linux <3

An offline game spawned from classic browser RPG Kingdom of Loathing, West of Loathing hits the hitherto unknown sweet spot between comedy, dramatic tension, stat building and interactive fiction. It's not the longest game in the world, particularly as you'll want to charge through it like a raging cow, but it's perfectly formed, with plenty of replayability. A must-play addition to any RPG fan's library. And thank you, Asymmetric, for the Linux support.

It's fine, really...

DLC finally came to GOG so I bought it. Fortunately, the writing is excellent, and the game is legitimately funny. However, game becomes very easy very quickly if you are doing a lot of side quests. I'm in the second area of the map, and things are starting to get rather repetitive; it mostly boils down to talking to alot of people and doing fetch quests. I'll probably finish it eventually, but I'm not in any rush to do so. Your mileage may vary.
