Very nice WH40K turn based combat

Good game. Not great, but solid GOOD game. Comparing to X-COM... it's not X-COM. No base building, no science, no mission diversity except a bit on boss fights. But the combat mechanics are different enough that Mechanicus was really fun to play. To be fair I got a bit bored after 40 - 45 missions, but it was endgame anyway ;) As for music and atmosphere are great graphics are ok, but maybe it was my 10+ years old PC that couldn’t keep up. Solid game for tactical and WH40K fans alike.

Decent W40K game, with a few issues

This is a turn-based dungeon crawler based around the W40K's Adeptus Mechanicus faction and the (undead-like) Necrons whom they hope to defeat on a strange tomb world. The game has a pretty good story and good writing. And you'll be doing lots of reading since the techpriests that you control speak in gibberish. The game has some good roleplaying elements that are fun, like leveling up your characters and selecting new skills and gear for them. Missions are generally short and to the point, but have enough atmosphere and variation to not make the game too boring after a while. The art style is solid, as is the music. The game is really a long countdown between first landing on the Necron world and finally awakening its leader (the last fight). You can choose which missions to take during the countdown, and I was able to do about 25 of them before the last boss fight. The game has a good number settings, and you can adjust the difficulty of enemies, the speed of the countdown, and several other factors. There are enough variations of Necrons to keep things interesting, and the techpriests have enough dialogue and personality to distinguish them. Winning battles can be quite satisfying. Okay, things that I didn't like. The cognition mechanic got old fast. It controls how far you can move, which weapons you can use, and even whether you can launch a basic attack during a fight. It just felt out of place and as a way of needlessly complicating the game. Along with this, the game does have a learning curve. I lost four missions in a row at the start and nearly quit the game before finally figuring it out. If there was a problem with the game being too easy at one time, that has been fixed. Tweak the difficulty settings to see what works for you; maybe start on "casual" and work your way up. Some of the mission rewards are junk or repetitious, and many of the choices that you make during a mission seem to have random consequences. Overall, worth my $15.

One of the best WH40k games out there

The atmosphere of the game is fantastic - the writing, the graphics, the music and the voice overs. Truly amazing job on this front. The gameplay itself is very well done and quite difficult in the early stages of the game, before you figure out what the best build is. Opponents don't really scale, so towards the end your tech-priests are true monsters, dispatching previously-difficult Necrons with ease. That's not a bad thing in my book, since you can obviously see just how far you've progressed. My only dislike is the global timer mechanic - I would have spent a lot longer doing all of the missions and unlocking every single upgrade, but I felt rushed, especially in the early game. It's well done, since you need to balance your desire to explore the tombs fully with the fact that exploring generates more awakening, so it's a balancing act. Still, maybe the game would have been better without it. Overall, definitely worth playing if you're a fan of WH40k.

STUNNING

I must say thanks to this game I got so into necrons and marsians faction and it has everything I love - strategy perfectly balanced and challenging, music is simply STUNNING AND AMAZING and models of units and heroes. Simply 10/10 every choice make a option, multiple endings and simply wow...I wish this game was more known :3

40K: Squad size strategy

There are a pile of 40k licensed games floating around over the last few years and, for the most part, they're pretty much cash grab garbage. GW, the creators of WH40K seem to be more than happy to let people slap the 40K name on any old rubbish and shovel it out into the world without a care at all. This game is not one of those. Due to the aforementioned loads of garbage out there, i didn't want to risk wasting money on another 40K game unless i was sure it was going to be good. Luckily, a guy on YouTube (Mandalore Gaming) decided to test the waters first and offered a great, honest review of the game and based on that, i decided i should give this one a shot and boy, am i glad i did! Ok, so the real review starts here - this is a Warhammer 40k themed game which looks remarkably like X-com, and absolutely does not play like it - it has a similar style, but plays in its own way. Cover mechanics? nah these guys don't duck, there are no frustrating hit %'s to worry about - weapons just hit - this goes for you and the other guy though, so fights can be fairly brutal if you don't think about what you're doing. That said, its not an intensely difficult experience and is actually fairly relaxed. The challenges ramp up though, so its not a complete breeze. It is themed really well and plays super easily. Visually, it looks like the developers channeled 40K really well - all the dialogue is excellent and appropriate to the setting. Non-40k folks may find this game a bit jarring to get into - the Mechanicum isn't really explained in much detail.. or.. well, any, so a little prior knowledge of the 40k world will help things make a little more sense - seriously, not much is needed, the game is quite approachable once you know a little bit about the setting. Ok, this review is rambling and going nowhere. Put it this way, of all the 40K games I've played, this one deserves the license, it earned it, respected it and respected the players. This game is well worth your time.
