Vagrus is an award-winning roleplaying game with a narrative focus, open-world exploration, and strong elements of strategy. The player takes the role of a vagrus - a caravan leader who strives to survive in a strange and dangerous dark fantasy world by leading a traveling company on all kinds of ventures.
A vast realm is yours to explore, filled with unique locations, strange factions, and a colorful cast of characters. In order to punish the Empire for its sins, the Elder Gods unleashed their power a thousand years ago that ended up devastating the realms. The continent is now a wasteland, riddled with arcane anomalies, swarming with twisted monsters, and haunted by roaming undead even after long centuries of rebuilding.
A large selection of stories make up the game’s narrative in the form of events and quests. The choices you make in these often affect your companions and the world around you. Pick your background from trader, mercenary, or explorer; work for factions, follow rumors and trading opportunities; acquire wealth, gain fame, and discover hidden knowledge.
Engage in turn-based, tactical combat that involves your companions and a large variety of enemies, both humanoid and monstrous. Use a wide range of character skills as well as your own leadership-related abilities to succeed. Positioning and support skills are of paramount importance in these challenging engagements.
Journeys have to be planned and prepared for carefully, lest they end in disaster. Manage your supplies, morale, and your crew’s vigor effectively to survive. Haul cargo and valuables across the wasteland or take it from others. Your crew of workers, fighters, scouts, and slaves have to be managed well to optimize their effectiveness.
A wide variety of companions can work for you in versatile caravan roles, such as scoutmaster, guard captain, treasure hunter, or beast handler. Each companion comes with unique combat skills, background stories, and personal quest lines that can upgrade them further when you complete them.
Ally yourself with mighty factions that shape the Riven Realms with their influence on commerce, brutal wars, and constant scheming. From prosperous Trading Houses to criminal syndicates and religious organizations, these groups offer powerful rewards and boons to those loyal to their cause. But take heed - befriending a faction will more than likely antagonize others.

Died and got stuck during the tutorial
Important to note that I'm still sort of having fun. It's similar enough to other games that I can probably wiggle through, but I am already reloading previous saves and attempting to scum, which generally goes against the spirit of games like these. But maybe Vagrus is different. Usually tutorials are exempt from fail states. But that is just a convention, there's no reason not to break it sometimes. It's just that these deaths force me to replay sections and thoroughly kill engagement. The writing is good enough, and the combat is clunky and annoying enough, that I kinda want to skip one to get back to the other. So what if my characters get crit to death again and again? Who cares? I hate to say, my investment in this phase is more or less zero, just let me through already. I was going to leave a much harsher review, specifically aimed at the type of person who would reply to Git Gud. Because reviews can't receive replies, these toxic little fanboys could only quietly seethe and rage and write their own reviews, turning this review section into a warzone like so many others. And I wouldn't have to read any of it, which is definitely a win for me. But then the devs would also have a marring 1/5 review on their score, and they don't deserve that. There's a lot of love here. So yeah, 3/5, maybe adjust the early game hell.

Incomplete
Can't level my guys up beyond level 2. Combat could be improved. Lotsa of other people have said similar things, but I do really hope it gets better as the worldbuilding is so solid

Another game where RNG is all that matters and choice is an illusion. Prologue introduction to meaningful choices and their consequences. You can either use a companion's ability to read the mind of the person you want to negotiate with in order to ascertain what leverage is necessary to gain their cooperation by assisting them in a problem they have. . .Attempt a moderate challenge -and arrive at the exact same response and results. Or attempt a very difficult challenge -to also arrive at the exact same response and result. 85% chance to hit is never better than 50-50, I have yet to hit anything in combat two turns consecutively, let alone 4 out of 5. And this game won't get 4 out of 5 stars. 2 for effort.

Don't recommend with controller/tv
I heavily prefer controller friendly games that I can play on my TV in the evenings, and I don't recommend buying this unless you're able to play on a PC. Playing through the introduction/Pilgrams felt tedious since I had to use the cursor function and zoom in/out a lot to read and navigate the different screens. +Excellent storybuilding and writing +Interesting characters and backstories -Small text size, zooming in/out on controller leaves parts of the window cut out -Steep learning curve when first playing, lots of micromanaging -Interface/screens are difficult to navigate
