Feels like its still in progress
Simple collision mechanic: you are hit therefore you go backwards aka you are hit by a boulder and therefore flung INTO the impact instead of across the room if your back is to the boulder. If you ever find yourself stuck, especially for the challenges you will find a great deal of gameplay is merely spent walking back and forth to where you need to go again - this would be acceptable when the obstacle is an enemy but the game has puzzles as well - and its to its detriment that it doesn't suspend its combat mechanics when you're at such a point - or at the very least a closer respawn. The game has promise, but needs work to meet that potential - I don't know that even if they are still working on it, they won't get bored of dealing with the nuances. In short I wish I had waited and will see if I can return the game without losing the rest of the bundle I bought it in.

Quite cool gameplay with a terrible DM
If you read other reviews about this game, you may have noticed people complain about the crass juvenile humor (which is true, but doesn't bother me), use of foul language (don't quite understand why people make such a fuss about this tbh), some bosses' mechanics like Neuron (yes, he is a pain, but I enjoyed quite a bit to fight him in a new fashion) and even the inability to play your character the way you wanted too (this is true, you need to invest is things outside your main area of expertise to progress, but I played on max difficulty and always had quite a few spare learning points). If that's so, why the three stars, you may ask? Well, it's because this very cool game is run by a terrible dungeon master, who hates your guts and tries quite hard to see you ultimately fail. -- SPOILERS AHEAD, READ AT YOUR OWN PERIL -- You've been warned. When you face the mages in the last tower, you really grasp what I meant by a vindictive and sadistic DM who runs this game: I'm in the next to last screen, and once I get past this I will get access to the very ending boss fight...but I doubt I'll another second of my time. In this particular screen (and the one before it, which was already a pain), we have annoying mages (who never run out of resources, btw), all but the easiest one conveniently placed out of your immediate reach and put in such advantageous positions that I began evaluating if I wanted to go throuh all that just to finish the game. I would like to, as it seems there's so little of it left, but at some point in redoing those particular screens and getting my bottom handed to me continuously by armies os skeletons that greatly limit your options I realized I wan't having fun anymore. Who designed this wanted things to be hard, I get it, but it should be done in balance with other features of the game. I think I will leave this one at 99.9% completed. Almost put five stars, but the final experience with the game deserves only three. Pity, I was having fun.

All seemed good at first...
I was enthusiastic about this game. But for me, the game is exactly "UN" Epic. The worst part, aside from the controls, is the humor with tons of references that fail to be funny. And there's a lot of unneeded strong language.

Not a sidescroll guy but its great fun
I don't play this type of game. Had to check wiki to know what metroidvania was! Anyway, this game is a side scrolling platform RPG. I really liked the story idea of the hero playing a table game and getting sucked into a dungeon at his friends house. The reviews tipped me over and I bought it full price. No regrets! The game is really fun to play. I've been listening to litRPG's lately and this has a similiar premise. The story is carried beyond the initial setup by the hero's unwelcome companion and their conversations as well as denizens he meets. It works well. This isn't serious Sword/sorcery, and there is some degree of humor, but it never breaks the storyline. The gameplay is easy to learn with a great and intuitive take on crafting and character creation/development. When RPG's say crafting, I am one of the few that want to run to the hills to escape it. Usually it fills my inventory and time up making stuff that isn't much better than what I find and even if it is better, I'd rather find it on a boss mob than craft it. But in this game, its logical and painless and is mostly about consumables anyway. Anyway, I recommend the game even to those that do not play this type of platform if 1) they are ok with the litRPG style (basically getting sucked into a pen and paper RPG in this instance) and having the hero be a regular guy. 2) They like to have fun playing games!
