1 trick, 100 easter eggs, poor gameplay

What I expected: The internet loves this game so much, sounds fun. What I got: Regretted playing in the end. MINOR SPOILER ALERT The 1 trick: What makes the game novel is the sense of being watched. Your actions are choices and choices have consequences. MORE SPOILER ALERT The bad: Much of everything else is lackluster. The puzzles, the controls, the maps, the pace, the graphics, the dialogs. Determined to be a good guy and not hurting anyone? Your end-game reward is a freaking bullet hell boss that takes hours to beat. Moral of the story? No idea. Thou must be a perfect person to the whim of all NPCs or else hell ya go? That will be too much of a sermon. The game contains a ton of easter eggs though. I'd rather wish the creator spend energy on the basics instead.

Good but hyped

Undertale is a J-RPG styled game, but with a twist. The idea is that you do not kill anyone, but it does not mean that you do not have to. The game changes depending on what action you take, so there is replayability to it. I myself finished the game in the neutral and pacifist way. This is what you probably knew already. And in all fairness it is a nice little game, but I do not understand the general awe for this game.. I think the hype comes mostly from the fact that there is a lot of emotion in the game and that there is a psychology behind the story line. The amount of depth is cool and it is why I gave it four stars (since three and a half is not possible). Do know that the game is very short and the fake 8-bit might get on your nerves (because it is not done right). If you are curious and like the idea of a replayable story this game is meant for you. If you are more of a gamer, you should not touch this one.

Excellent Experience

This was such a fun experience. I knew that it was a different kinda game going in, but I didn't expect to be laughing out loud as often as I did. Or to enjoy the hell out of the soundtrack so much. The characters in the game are so memorable and the story is so unique. Once I decided to play through it I couldn't put it down. Great job devs for creating such a cool experience.

A modern classic

Okay, if you've heard about this game by now, you probably already heard people rave about it's amazing story. And while the story is amazing, there are a couple less discussed qualities I'd like to bring up. First, its difficulty curve is insanely smooth. I only died a few times in Undertale to bosses, but their battles still felt tense I more than once beat a boss with low health and no healing items. The game also has a clever trick of tying easter eggs to certain healing items, which motivates people who are already good at the game to try harder. Second, the music is AWESOME. Just to give you an idea of what it's like, I used to think that all electronic music was crap, but this game changed my mind. Seriously, if you're at all thinking about getting this game, get it. It's only 10 dollars, and you owe it to yourself to at least try it.
