Best game of 2018
As a massive adventure game fan, this was my game of the year for 2018. The writing is brilliant, the artwork just jumps off the screen, and the gameplay is fantastic. This game also has one of the the best plot twists I have ever experienced in a game. I cannot recommend this game enough. At least it isn't Blackwell
Unavowed is actually a decent point and clicker. It uses old style graphics mixed with a few modern lighting techniques, and the modern elements definitely do not clash, as they're done in a really subtle but effective way. The story flows really nicely and the backgrounds are just detailed enough so as not to be distracting and get in the way of being immersed in the story. Those are definitely the good points. The voice acting, however, I can only describe as above average. This is better at least than Blackwell, which was so awful I couldn't even go on. But what most irks me about this game, and call me nit-picky all you wish, is the fact that nobody's mouth EVER moves when they talk. When you're going to go down the route of faux old-school graphics, it would be nice to actually make their mouths move when talking. This is something The Dig managed to pull off - and that was made in 1995. There is absolutely no excuse not to implement it in these types of graphics when you've made a game about 20 years after one that did. As if to add insult to injury, one of the non-playable character's mouths DOES move when she's chewing gum! I'm unsure as to why the developer couldn't be bothered to implement this but it would feel way more immersive than it does. Even King's Quest VI managed to have animated character portraits - and that was released in 1992 (so let's say it was made circa 1991 as PC games sure weren't knocked out in 6 months back in those days). I feel it a bit of a nonsense comparing it to Broken Sword, or Monkey Island, as this is one of those almost reverse engineered games, rather than one of the classics making the very best effort out of the technology that they had at the time. The story is definitely there so buy it for that, but if you're a point and click veteran like me you might also find it frustrating how lazy this developer has been in presentation and implementation of the basics.

Not on par with other Wadjet Eye games
This is the first Wadjet Eye game where I found myself skipping the dialogue, and that was during the intro. I quit shortly after because that game is simply terrible. Characters are bland and uninteresting. Puzzles offer very little challenge and logic/credibility. The writing is bad. The story is boring. Go play Gemini Rue or Resonance instead.
