Ultima™ 9: Ascension

Ultima IX was very Hardware hungry when it came to be, so it was not so much fun with an old maschine, BUT once you got it up and running, it was just a wondeful world to explore. The Magicsystem was very interesting and fun to use, while the Melee section of the game was quite fun when you learn the special move. The dungeons were great, not linear crap like modern games, sure, a litte strange to the modern eye but it is a fantasy world for crying out loud :3 THe Game really gave you something if you explored nice loot und fun quests. I do not have enough stamina to write the wrong that has ben done to this game, I loved it for what it was: An Adventure. Nothing more, nothing less. Give it a Chance. Yours Truely Mr. McGruffels

I loved this game when it was first released, it was slightly buggy, and had issues that most new games of the time had, but the story and graphics were just gripping. Tried to get my CDROM version working recently, but poor graphics compatibility made it impossible to play, so hoping the GOG release will fix these issues.

Im not even sure why it was released. It was extremely buggy and incomplete which is very noticeable as you progress through the game. Forget this was part of the Ultima franchise

Ultima 8 was my first Ultima game and I really enjoyed it. By the time I played it the patches had resolved the dodgy jumping and it was quite a fun action/adventure/RPG. Since then I've played most of the Ultima games and can see why number 8 is so hated. I do still maintain that it can be played and enjoyed immensely. Ultima 9 is different. It both doesn't tie in well with the other Ultimas and the gameplay is just plain bad. The only thing it had going for it on release was the impressive 3D world... but now it's just a dated, sad and barely playable game. Avoid.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I thought this was a truly great RPG. It was immersive, the story was interesting and it was a fitting end to one of the greatest video game series ever. I've played it through at least 5 times since buying the collectors edition on release day. And now that I can get it here I will be playing it through again.
