Good game but horseback riding ruins it

This game was really fun until I got stuck for the third time in the first 20 levels while riding my horse. The other two times I could just spawn another horse and continue on (after the tedious process of transferring my inventory to the new horse), but this time I found myself stuck on a bench placed in the center of the riding path in a very traveled part of the world, unable to move or dismount. There may be a way to despawn the horse using the console and continue on with the game but I had no desire to continually de and respawn horses and transfer inventory for the remainder of the game. Some may say don't use horses but I needed the extra inventory space and it was fun (although frustrating to control at times) to ride them and fight from them. Not to mention you moved faster on a horse, a significant factor in a large game world. For such a promising game to be derailed by inadequately debugging such a central feature is disappointing. They could have removed the horse entirely if they couldn't get it right and created more teleportation locations and lighter loot, for instance. Or remove features like benches placed in the f&#!($* middle of the riding path that one becomes easily stuck upon! Too bad, I was having fun otherwise.

Give it a chance and it'll win you over

I hadn't really heard of this game before, but I bought it on a whim after reading some of the reviews here. I was profoundly unimpressed for the first hour or so, but once I stopped worrying about the skill trees and figuring out the "right" things to do first, I really started to fall in love with how big and well fleshed-out this world is. The environments in this game deserve special praise because they actually feel like a real country, with terrain and architecture shifting gradually into strikingly different regions. The main quest is interesting enough as RPGs go, but the side quests impressed me more with how inventive a lot of them are, especially in the cities. The dialogue is actually really well written (or translated), and the voice acting is decent on average. The writing has a very nice, often subtle sense of humor, and you'll especially enjoy it if you don't mind a little casual misogyny here and there. (There are multiple side-quests that revolve around dealing with wives or female relatives who are just too bitchy for the male NPCs to deal with themselves, and some of the dialogue might as well have been taken from a Henny Youngman routine.) You will probably enjoy this game most if you are like me and really like collecting shiny new equipment. There's a huge array of genuinely unique-looking armor and weapons to be had in this game. I honestly enjoyed this way more than I did Oblivion, largely because I rarely found new items in Oblivion that were better than what I was already carrying. I also disliked that enemies leveled up with you in Oblivion. I play games for the adolescent power fantasies they let me play out, and I really enjoy the heck out of just wading through a pack of enemies that would have destroyed me a few hours before. You get that in Two Worlds (along with a lot of new, stronger enemies to work up to), and I appreciate it. Overall, this is a quality game with a lot of depth to it. It takes some time to get your bearings, but it is definitely worth the effort.

great game, broken Linux port

the game is old but good (if you enjoyed Morrowind, Oblivion, Gothic and similar old titles). you can try to role play any class but eventually you will finish game as melee character because magic and archery is not very viable end game. game has robust potion making system, you can improve your stats by brewing nice perma boosts. Equipment is easy to find, nice way to upgrade it. As a result if you invested in alchemy and have decent upgraded melee weapon(s) you can proceed naked because you'll be able to tank with all these perma boosts. There are still hard enemies end game, but you can run away from them. performance isn't great, some choppiness during fights, open world has to be read from hdd and it adds 1-2 seconds freezes when you run from area to area. had no crashes or game breaking issues. Linux port is broken and unusable. I had to play Windows version in wine (which strangely enough had better performance than on Windows 7 on same hardware, visually less choppy). developer published working beta version for Linux on steam, but it's not available in gog downloads yet. when questioned about availability for gog developer said to ask TopWare or on gog forums. clearly they won't upload that beta to gog so if you're Linux user and expect this game to be playable - don't keep your hopes high or be prepared to use wine. gog should remove Linux tag from this game because it's a lie.

This game is a mess but i like it

So let's start with the good ones are we? Graphics: When you begin playing a new game the first thing you notice is the graphics, for it's age it's beautiful except the lighting or montion blur which hurt your eyes. Story: You can complete the main story in less than 7 hours maybe even less if you activate cheats. (And i did) story is fine but you have to complete a series of unrelated quests to reach endgame. I like how they at least made a good narrative story. Alchemy: The best part of the game is alchemy you can combine almost every item to make a potion or a gem to increase the effect of the item i spent hours experimenting with new potions. Unfortunately now we get to the worst parts Combat: Mediocre especially melee funny as h*** animations spam the attack button and you win simple as that remember to dogde some enemy attacks can't be blocked, you can also use your spells alongside melee. Skills: Kinda pointless. You can choose between mage, archer and melee skills each with different category. Upgrading skills is kinda pointless because the enemy balance is not good. There is also a skill for swimming which leads to death if you try to swim and it's hilarious. Moreover there is another pointless skill Horse Riding with the worst controls i have even seen. Map and Quests: To be fair the map is fine at first glance it gives you the impression everywhere is the same but it's not there is a variety of places. Now the quests are the worst i have ever seen fetch quests mostly and most of the time you don't know what to do because most of the quests can be completed if another quest is completed. Voice Acting and Dialog: The most hilarious part of the game.So bad voice acting is good also the translation into English is not good Magic: Maybe the best in the game with a variety of spells but i didn't use it much only when i have to. Conclusion: A decent RPG game with many flaws not the best not the worst

Good but flawed.

Two Worlds is a good game with some deep production flaws. The controls are awkward in general, and combat is unresponsive. In melee combat you just end up mashing the left mouse button and hoping you hit something. Ranged combat works better. The graphics suffer from annoying amounts of level of detail popping, but this is only to be expected from a game that came out in 2007 and uses the SpeedTree RT middleware. Despite this, I found the environments to be very beautiful and evocative. The voice acting is terrible. Thankfully it can be muted. The writing is even worse. It's like a 12-year old trying too hard to write Shakespearean dialog: an overdose of 'twas, pray tell, mayhap, prithee, forsooth, and verily. The main quest is not very interesting, but works as an excuse to visit the corners of the wold to explore and do the much more interesting side quests. The character you play is an insufferable idiot in all conversations, especially in the main quest.
