Fantastic Game Ruined by Clunky Design
It looks great. It has a detailed portrayal of the people as they walk around and do their work. It sounds great. The gameplay template is good also. There is research that boosts various aspects of the town. Custom settings for endless mode games allow you to turn off or on disasters and etc… There is a full spectrum variety of maps for both the original and expansion. However all that is ruined by clunky issues with worker and resource management and as a whole, management in general. There is no way to see a list of all workers. You can only access workers per diem in the specific buildings they are assigned to. It’s hard to place buildings due to obstructions and mandatory spacing requirements. Because of how population works, demolishing old houses to build better ones is a hassle. You cant directly control or optimize supply chains. Storage is split between production locations, warehouses, and how “carriers” vs production workers go about picking up and bringing resources from one place to another. All the most important information is buried in sub-menus. The info in the top bar is very general information that really isn’t useful to plan and make decisions during play. Workers need to go back and forth to make multiple trips to bring materials to a building to build them - you can only assign at max two workers to a build a building. Sadly, almost everything in the game suffers some kind of issue where what should be simple and straight forward is instead clunky and awkward. This exact game that just had had QoL overhaul would be a 5 star game. But the modern game industry has come to a dump and run cash grab mode of making their profit. Very few developers / publishers actually polish and perfect their game, either before, or after their release.
