That’s the stuff!

You know the drill: you move forward, click and kill! The enemies reappear if you exit the game and re-enter. There are fountains on your way, which serve as a checkpoint. So if you don’t want to do any farming (by replaying an area), you have to reach a fountain before you save and exit, and some of them have a distance of over an hour between them, which is quite long. This saving method is the only negative I’ll say for the game, as there were times that I had to turn off the PC and leave, forcing me to replay an area afterwards, and times when I had about 40-45 minutes available, but I couldn’t play, as I was wondering where would the next save be and if I manage to reach it before I have to stop! Full voiced, but there aren’t any dialogues! They are actually NPCs’ monologues, as your hero doesn’t respond anything. Small inventory space initially, but later it expands. Thankfully, you can teleport to the merchants anytime, and return to where you were, by the same manner. Very beautiful environments, with vivid colours. I couldn’t have enough of the game’s locations! You can see the real-life time by placing the mouse cursor on the upper left corner of the screen! I hadn’t seen this feature in any game before! I guess the developers knew that your time will fly quickly, and wanted to protect the player from missing out on real life important obligations! (However, they still implemented THAT saving method!) The Immortal Throne expansion begins right after the main game and the enemies seemed to be more densely placed. 68 hours for main game and another 32,5 for the I.T. exp.. Someone can say that you repeatedly do the same thing over again, ok, but traversing the ancient lands, solving people’s problems and fighting monsters, yes, the game makes you feel like a mythological hero of the old world! You can read my reviews of the other expansions, on the same date as this one. I didn’t buy the Eternal Embers expansion, as I’m not for such high difficulties.

AE is simply awful

Titan Quest and Immortal throne were never properly finished/patched due to Iron Lore's financial difficulties and eventual bankruptcy. That said, the game is highly enjoyable and fans have done a remarkable job of patching the game and adding content. My issue is specifically with the Anniversary Edition. The "rebalancing" was poorly planned and implemented- just for example the sword Mindrazor still has the same name but does not mind control as it originally did. Why not remove or rename it? Many of the original bugs are still present (RNG for instance) and the loot drops were never fixed. Identical items frequently appear in the same area or even the same container. I'll remove this piece of garbage and use the gold edition.

Supreme ARPG at a Bargain SALE price!

After spending hundreds of hours on Torchlight and it's sequel I needed some change! This was $2 on sale so why not but this. Brewed a nice tea defeated a shaman and saved a village all in the first 20 minutes 😊 Runs on my integrated Intel 730 graphics with 16gb of ram so I imagine it runs on anything!

One of the staples of ARPG genre

Titan Quest was my 2nd favorite ARPG after Diablo 2 and for years nothing came close to adequatly filling the gap between D2 sessions, until Path of Exile came...and I've played many of them. It has all the ingredients of a great ARPG - pretty interesting class/skill system that allows for lots of variety, decent looks (for it's time) and sound, solid itemization, good enemy and boss variety, good atmosphere, large ammount of complexity without choking the player...even the story is ok (for hack'n'slash standards). Each of TQ's acts/regions has different look, different enemies and items specific to that region, different music, NPCs...all of them appropriately themed. It creates a sense of cohesion and an atmosphere that I don't think I remeber seeing in any other ARPG. I can't for the life of me remember even the bosses from other games in the genre, let alone the trash mobs, while I can think of an area in TQ and immediately remember a monster I've fought there, even after years of not playing it...that's something I've only experienced with Diablo 2, that sense of uniqueness. Graphics, although aged, has been somewhat retouched in the Anniversary Edition and it's not bad, considering how old the game is. What stands out the most a as visual flop are the animations of human characters, which seem comical at times. Funny enough, monsters are animated well. Sound design is good, especially the music which is different for each area. I have to mention the God-awful voice acting of the NPCs, which is downright comical, to the point it actually becomes endearing...weird, I know. The gameplay is good. Thank to wide selection of classes, skills and item , there's a fair bit of complexity and replayability. All playstyles - melee, ranged and spellcaster - are viable and fun. And there is a bunch of good mods available to further improve gameplay and prolong the fun. All in all, it's a must-play for ARPG fans, as well as its spiritual successor, Grim Dawn.

Great setting, fun atmosphere, TITANS

I first bought this game when it came out and was surprised by how fun and engaging it was. I put many hours into it and it really scratches that hack-and-slash itch. It's not ground-breaking and it's not perfect. Other reviewers have made points I agree with, about how it can feel too linear sometimes and a bit "grind-y." I myself was a bit disappointed with how the weapons and armour didn't look all that different, but I realize that was a design choice to keep it at least somewhat authentic to the historical setting. It's the commitment to the authenticity and setting that made me really like it. You move through different environments and areas from Greek mythology and just when you start getting sick of an area, it changes. It's not all dark dungeons, all the time and it's a refreshing change. I'm excited to see it with better graphics, some wonderful tweaks (better pet AI and inventory management, thank Zeus) and it bundled with the expansion which I never played. I'm happy to add this to my GOG library.
