Amazing multi-layered puzzle game

A very original puzzle game from J. Blow that will keep you occupied for quite a while, especially if you avoid all spoilers about it, and its themes will resonate with you long after having finished it. The Witness stores quite a few surprises for the player who explores its world. It does a lot with the variations on its puzzles and the additional content it offers. I am still discovering new stuff that I haven't noticed on my playthrough, and I am very impressed by the design choices and the thought that went into some of the puzzles and area design. There are a few puzzles that I found frustrating and more than annoying to solve, but the overall experience made up for them in spades -- also thankfully the most annoying one was optional. I'm rating this 5/5 because I still believe it was the best game (and most refreshing) I've played in 2016.

Masterpiece

9/10 This game is a masterpiece. I'm saying it even when I do not share what Jonathan Blow says or expresses. - It is entertaining. - It is misterious. - It is beautiful. - Runs flawlessly in a not-high-end PC. I don't think everybody will love it because requires the whole patience in the world for finishing it and several people don't like puzzles either. The only missing point for my review (9 of 10) is because the difficulty. Yeah, I couldn't finish the game without looking for hints or even answers. I love difficulty, I love puzzles and I love how the island teaches you to solve puzzles but... some of them are really hard and I think it could have had more work arround that difficulty barrier.

Great game - strange permissions

This is an astonishing great game, a puzzle game that made me feel smarter the more I played it, a truly satisfying experience. The only reason this is not 5 stars from me is the absurd permissions the installer wants on OSX - receive keystrokes from all applications? Is this infested with some kind of key-logging malware? Luckily apple has a granular permissions model, you can tell The Witness to restrict its witnessing to it's own business.

A sudoku booklet worth of puzzles

Yes, the witness looks beautiful, and yes the puzzles are clever. But ultimately i don't see the point. While Braid beautifully connected narrative and gameplay, while giving you an experience you can't have outside of a computer game, The Witness doesn't feel like it should be an electronic game at all. Take a pencil, paper, and a Martin Gardner book to a local park and you have a much more enjoyable (not to say cheeper) experience than this Game. It wouldn't be so bad, if walking around the island wasn't so boring. Yes, it's pretty all right. But we have seen the art style in screen shots and video teasers. Pretty isn't enough to motivate me. Sorry, but this isn't worth my time or money.
