It was a great game but no where as good as the original. The combat was simpler than the original and it was more pigeon toed.

I really like the witcher story and it's great that game follows the books. But... story is all there is worth the time. Simply put the game mechanics is just awful. The game itself is a pretty poor console port and it's painfully obvious from the very first fight. Immersion is constantly broken by meaningless clicking and camera shifts on every door. Fighting offers exactly zero satisfaction. Instead of feeling powerful and executing cool combo moves like in many other slasher games or even like in Witcher 1 you hero is constantly staggered and forced to roll around. Theres no balance what so ever and changing difficulties offers very little to mitigate that. Please mind that I'm not complaining about not being able to win the fights. I do, even on Dark difficulty but it's an absolute chore and brings only annoyance and frustration. On top of all that it's full of bugs and performance issues which even mods can't mitigate. All in all - watch it on youtube for the story and don't waste time playing.

Fantastic game, but the performance is not on point in the Linux port. Expect to need a very fast graphics card to get a fluent experience.

Witcher 2 - one of the best RPGs ever made, and my favourite game of all-time. Everyone should try it!

After playing The Witcher 1, I almost walked away from the series altogether. I'm extremely happy that I gave the sequel a chance. I will say that TW2 does have quite the learning curve starting out, much like the first, but after investing the time to get the hang of things the game becomes an amazingly immersive experience that you can be proud to get lost in. I'm about 8 hours in and so far I've enjoyed every moment. The lack of arbitrary morality (good/bad) is amazing. For once it is the player that decides in the moment what to do and simply lives with the consequences of that particular action. You aren't 'bad' because you did a bad thing, and you aren't 'good' for doing benevolent things, you are simply a person making choices. I have always hated stealth with a passion, but I was so into my character that I intentionally cleared an entire dungeon with stealth when I could have gutted everyone and been on my merry. That this game could invest me enough in my character to feel that killing needlessly would ruin him is truly the greatest compliment I could ever give. *Unless you are an extreme Witcher fan, I don't think anyone should be subjected to the first game. You can watch the story from the game on YouTube and it will still be painful, but you'll be all caught up in a couple hours.
