It crashed just after a few minutes of play. Fonts are very small and unreadable because of smoothing. I tried various resolutions and it didn't help. I have a quite decent machine I think, i7-3632qm 4x2.2ghz / Intel HD 4000 and on low details it often lags and that's just the first location (castle). The gameplay.. I didn't like it much, it got boring just after two hours. The intro movie when Geralt fights the monster-princess is disappointing, the monster has 100x more muscles than Geralt, but he kicks her like she were a doll. I can understand that it is supposed to be fantasy, but a bit of realism wouldn't hurt.

This game is probably the best/worst investment I've made on this site. I am an old-school gamer who never progressed, by choice, beyond 3rd edition DnD and games like Baldur's Gate and Planescape (a must). This game caught me by surprise and i am beyond grateful for that. Completely engaging story, easy and dynamic combat with such vivid scenery and mutable story-lines. Cannot recommend it more, it has everything that a RPGer should look for and more, a pleasant surprise on every level. There is enough details to keep the obsessive compulsive entertained and my only complaint is the recycling of the NPC avatars does get a little tiresome.

One of the better RPGs I've ever played. It's extremely solid and memorable. What can I say that hasn't already been said? As great as this game is, I don't think I would care to play through a second time. It was great fun the first time through, but in the end, playing through a second time to choose a different path would feel mostly redundant. The game plays essentially the same regardless of the path you choose. No new areas unlock, you just get different interactions and dialog and slightly different third act and ending. However, the choices you make do carry over to The Witcher 2, but if you really want to start The Witcher 2 with a different decision in The Witcher, there are save game editors to allow you to do that without having to replay the whole thing. Just a few parting gripes: The game is incredibly easy. I played on the hardest difficulty level and I think I died once or twice through the entire thing. Also, the leveling system and talent tree are incredibly unbalanced. I put all of my points into sword skills and completely neglected signs (magic). In fact, there is no reason at all to ever put points into any of the sign skills since sword combat is much, much more effective. I would give this game a 9/10 stars, but since GOG has a 5 star rating system and I can't give it a 4.5 I give it a 5 instead. Definitely a solid RPG and worth every cent. I think most people will find some replay value in it even if I did not.

I wish I could give 4.5 stars, but when choosing between 4 and 5 stars, I'd definitely give 5 stars. This game is amazing in almost all aspects. The best feature of this game is that this is one of the few RPGs in which your choices really affect the gaming world, the storyline and the quests you'll be doing later on. Plus, it also affects these things in the Witcher 2 and the upcoming Witcher 3! The choices you have to make are also tough ones: there are no obvious right or wrong choices; in many cases, you'll never even know which was the right choice. The combat can be not to everyone's liking, especially the sword-fighting: you have to time your clicks to do combos. Some may find this dull; I didn't find it too exciting either, but I've seen worse. At least it works! And the sword fighting animations are pretty cool. Plus, the signs add some variety. Some signs can become overpowered quickly though: with some talents invested in certain skill trees and drinking some easy-to-come-by potions you can just spam the standard damage skill (Igni) until your enemies all lie dead at your feet. If I can give you one advise: do not invest too heavily in Igni. It's not even a strategic sign, it's just your basic damage spell, and can become overpowered quickly.
