I've read all seven books about Geralt several times, and what still strikes me the most in this game - the spirit of Sapkowskij's dark fantasy world was transferred in game with true attention to details. Some things are not 'right' according to the source, but never the less, it is the same world, the same people, the same city. If you aren't fantasy geek like me, this game still worth looking for. Noir plot with greed, sex, treachery and with a lot of choices. Who is the good guy? Who is the bad one? Whom to protect and whom to kill? Who is trustworthy and who is only looking so? Great game, almost perfect IMO.

I remember first playing this when It first came out, I was impressed by the trailer and I searched for it on play and there it was, It just seemed to stand out from every game that was around at the time. So my overall impressions will be based on the original version. Without going into many spoliers you are Garalt of Rivia a monster hunter after the tutorial phase you set about to learn your past, you meet various people along the way in what is a long, complex yet throughly entertaining story What impressed me thhe most about this game unlike other modern games of its genre It felt like you truely had a choice in your actions they do have a significant impact upon the world which is a dark and gritty place and is the polar opposite of the usual fairy tale medival settings, with adult overtones and more realitic life overtones such as sex,drugs,violence being heavily prevailant. The character customisation is pretty deep where you can have your garalt master different styles to be more apt in different siituations than others and again it feels like you are in control of how you want him to play. The combat can initially be hard to adjust to but in the end it fares a lot better than it would be if it was a button masher as it feels like more finesse as you attack your enemys and is a lot more tactical with the various stances you are able to deploy. The boss fights are pretty epic especially the one at the end of the game, reading the lore upon each of the mythical beasts that apparantly exsist really builds up the athosphere when finally meeting them face to face. I throughly recommend this game to all rpg fans and am convinced that even non fans of the genre would enjoy this.

I've never been crazy about the "amnesia" plot device, but setting that aside for the moment, this game is just incredible. There's much to be said for the way decision-making impacts the storyline. Like others have said, you are almost never making clear "good or evil" choices. Your choices almost always limit your future options, and you frequently have to make choices without knowing how it will impact the story further along. Going out and killing monsters never feels like grinding, it feels like role-playing a mercenary. Fights never get boring because enemies that are weak on their own can still easily kill you in groups. And you're not constantly leveling up your weapons to do a hundred times the damage your first weapon did--instead, you're adding tactical abilities and chain attacks that require an evolution of your playing style. Potions and poisons aren't a last-minute stop-gap, they're an essential part of planning your strategy. And I love the alchemy system for its systematic approach--rather than having to collect specific ingredients in certain proportions, you're given a set of primary and secondary substances that appear in different combinations in each ingredient, and then are allowed to combine them however you want (or can) in order to make your potion. There are more aspects that make this game fun and unique. (Drunkenness is really well-handled, for example.) But in the end, it just comes down to one of the highest recommendations I can give for a game.

Sometimes it feels like you're in a movie, everything just flows nicely & there are no 'put the cheese grater down the well & turn three times to open the door' type daft puzzles to annoy you. As your skill improves, so do the adversaries, yet it still remains a fairly open world where you can explore or do side tasks to build up your skill set & try again or find ingredients for potions & the like. Save often, as there are certain events that happen where you will be killed if you don't have enough skill to get through, but most problem scenes (even the most difficult )have several possible ways to complete them. In the whole game, I can only think of one situation that required a set routine to complete. How you do the rest is pretty much up to you. For $9.99, this is a steal. Congrats to Project Red for a game well done !

I had bought this ages ago, since release, yet I just played it recently, and finished it. And I have to say it is one of the best games out there. It have an amazing story line, Good visiuals for its time, now they are decent enough and acceptable for such an old game. Good gameplay, which focuses around mixing chemicals to create special potions that can improve your weapons and abilities, and a good combat as well. I got hooked on the story from the 1st chapter, you just have to play the 1st chapter and see how the story unfolds and expands and then get large as hell. Quests, Creatures, Characters, extra activities, its a well crafted game. Your choises changes the game and how the story unfolds, and you see that reflected in the world around you. If you do choice A rather than B or C, you will see the consequences of that choise, later on in the game. My only regret is playing this game now, 10 years later, i've had it in my PC literally for 10 years.
