HFT Reviews The Solus Project

The Solus Project is one of those indie creations to get excited about. It’s a very good game, but is it a perfect game? Of course not! It’s got a few weird things going on: a couple graphical issues and seemingly endless references to other intellectual properties (borrows much from TV show Lost in particular). Readers, I know what you’re thinking: So what, another indie studio created another indie game blah blah blah why should I care? Readers, I already told you the answer to that: it’s a very good game! Weren’t you listening!? Think: a crispy Lost pie crust with the disappointing conclusion trimmed off (Season 6, I’m looking at you) and fill that with Interstellar custard cream, but now scrape the oily Matt Damon meringue off the top and then sprinkle with a couple teaspoons of crushed Ancient Aliens. Ahhhh, pure heaven I tell ya! Okay, so there’s no black hole or time travel in TSP, but it captures that “Interstellar” vibe nonetheless. More than once, I found myself overlooking an alien tropical beach paradise at the precipice of a craggy drop off and wanting pump both fists into the air and yell, “I’M THE MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY OF THE WORLD!!!” I didn’t though. My wife isn’t into videogames. Such spontaneous outbursts would be frowned upon and followed up by punishment nagging to do irrelevant tasks. Yeah, fetching that glass of water for you and then that bowl of kale chips for you and then turning off that hallway light so you could watch Gilmore Girls without the glare sure showed me for enjoying something without you. Lesson learned. Ahem, moving on readers, this is simulated walking at its finest. That statement is coming from me: a gamer who loathes Dear Esther et al. I feel like TSP goes the extra mile to... Boring

This game is really boring, and the controls are sluggish and unresponsive. No gripping ledges, or anything to that effect. Invisible borders and way point markers destroy any survival aspect of this "open world" game. You know, come to think of it, you spend more time in caves, than in the "open world". Speaking of caves, they are done terribly in this game. ridiculous "puzzles" that require you to slide giant pillars around to make it to the other balcony. That is not a puzzle, that is frustrating busy work. Honestly, this game is a walking simulator with minor survival additions. Glad I bought it on discount. Two thumbs down!

Walking simulator

The game world itself is not bad, but I hardly can call it a game. First, survival elements are here just to annoy you. Second, there are not much to do while you are waiting for the storm to end or the sun to rise. The story is just meh and the ending is underwhelming. The game has nothing to provide except mundane walking and the most annoying way to experience the story through the reading of tons of stone plates.

GREAT Time, WELL Spent!

Well, lately I've migrated from fps games to more rpg and atmospheric titles; am really enjoying Solus, for the exploration and 'walking sim' folks either love or hate. I like a walking sim, if it is not all scripted -- is an actual game, not an interactive movie with little interaction. I have Solus set on the easiest difficulty, but can already tell in it's rather limited open-world and cave crawling scenario I am going to really enjoy some replays, for collectibles, and things I missed just to practice and progress for now. I HAVE also Progressed! Lol. If You like exploration, some moderately tough puzzles accessing some areas, and a relaxing, not nail-biting experience, this game may be for You. It runs very well, no glitches, on my machine, that is an i5 16gb, with Nv 4gb 1050. With gamepad may take getting used to the bumpers for the inventory, and slightly slow walking pace; but there is also an adequate sprinting bind, for when there is room to run in the open areas. Illumination in the caves is by a torch, which does not go out often in 'easy' mode; and other crystals and sticks for this too, along the way. It's a very well designed survival game, I think: Gamers have many different tastes in this category, but I again am really enjoying it. I give it a four, only because I notice it's not been updated for some time; I'm playing on Win 10, I do not know about later or other systems I have... I recommend this highly for a set-up like mine and if one does not mind a sandbox open-world that IS like a sandbox to play in: GREAT Time, WELL spent, especially for the 'Exploration' crowd; GET this game!

A fantastic sci-fi experience.

This is a fantastic Sci-Fi thriller, a really good exploration and survival game, made by an independent studio that proves that you don't need to have a big amount of money to make a good game. The Art-Design is one of the high points in this title, always dominated by red and blue tones. Highly recommended if you want to experience a different kind of survival and sci-fi game.
