so... so bad...

Every aspect of this game is hilarious and/or infuriating. The plot. The music. How contrived the puzzles are. The hyper-specific dialogue trees. And especially Halligan's characterization. This is not the only game I've played with a self-centered and obnoxious protagonist, but it IS the only game I've played where no attempt was made to offset that unlikeability whatsoever. You, the player, will spend the entire game actively be rooting for him to fail. You will come to learn first-hand why his colleagues despise and distrust him so much. And you will wonder what masochistic fascination compels you to keep aiding him on his quest. Please don't let that stop you from playing though. Go into it as blind as possible, you'll thank me later.

A Product of It's Time

It was like opening a time capsule, I am a Gen Z and I remember the few times this type of uncanny valley 3D with the early Pixar stuff, but the game premise is unique and definetly daring, ever since this, what game used Druids as villains instead of generic helpers? And on modern setting nonethless. These days Druids are show on fantasy RPGs TT or Online/Singeplayer videogames, this is what make this game a masterpiece despite the obviously flaws in gameplay mechanics and the appearences but to that end many games studios of its time had limited time and budget, As Mandaloregaming who pointed me to this: "the writing gives so much attention to little details that it stack up. There are gaping plotholes on the plot at the same time, but it doesn't seem to matter. There's a ton of subtle dry humour throughout the entire game." And indeed there is, I went in curious after watching the review and indeed there is I can't believe a 2000s game made me laugh in this day and age but considering the amount of garbage it's released nowadays I guess could be some form of Nostalgia when videogames worried about telling a nice story not transmit bs agenda messages about anything you see on X these days

Badly good

I highly recommend it for the extremely natural dialogues and logical approaches to solving anything.

Halligan is the best adventure protag

Spoilers: In this game you play as detective Halligan and he's an absolute goblin of a character. Despite the pedigree of working for Scotland Yard as a detective, before the game even starts your character has a reputation for never returning borrowed office supplies, spends his time reading UFO conspiracy books , apparently has a several hundred pound pizza tab, and racked up so many international phone call charges that he is banned from making outbound calls by his boss. While adventure game protags generally are clueless jerks or underhanded rogues Halligan takes this trope even further by knowingly commiting multiple and rather severe crimes throughout the game, such as stealing crime scene evidence, poisoning a homeless man, desecrating a burial with a magical IED, stealing from a library, framing an innocent bystander for the crime of theft, cannibalism, and he even goes as far as murdering a bystander in order to exploit a loophole in a magical agreement he entered.
