Dang Fine Game

This is most certainly The Longest Journey. If you're looking for a great Adventure Game that LASTS... holy crap, this one lasts. Great story, characters, you will give a crap from start to finish. My only gripe with the game was the Dialogue would many times feel like it just went on and on and on. I couldn't wait, sometimes, for the talking to just be over with so I could move on. This is the first game I've ever felt that way about. None the less, doesn't take away from the level of excellence this game is.

Lovely.. ah, but...

The minute this becomes available in the original Norwegian and for a mac I will buy this, even though I already own it - this game is *that* good. The long time ago I played it I enjoyed it immensely, still occasionally I am sad because I sadly cannot play this great game - no compatible computer.

Style Wins over substance

Good game overall , The problem i have with this game is the general pacing as others have mentioned in previous reviews . I played Dreamfall before coming to this and read many public reviews which recommend the longest journey strongly over dreamfall but both games suffer from the same issues and feel just like a continuation with better graphics . The game leaves you in many situations where you are just wondering back and forward talking to the same people multiple times sometimes requiring to say the same thing multiple times before proceeding , The problem is this slows the game down terribly because when it seems you have found the solution or you are certain there is something else you go wondering around looking to find another solution when the solution was right there in the first place , How are you supposed to know to say the same line multiple times for an answer ? It's just annoying in the end and wastes too much time. The game is definitely aiming at life from a female perspective , I enjoy some of the dialogue from the world characters however most of april and friends dialogue is straight out of a dysfunctional teenage female coming of age flick , April the main character is forever sarcastic and seemingly hopeless and complaining about the majority of things going on and it starts to become annoying and unnecessary after a while . Style wise the game achieves a perfect vision of a fantasy and future world , It has many great things to see , Interesting and colorful folks to meet and is always exciting to wonder into the new areas and explore however the game surprisingly isn't very interactive in terms of doing unique things and going into sub areas for a seemingly large world , The story and locations are mainly on a linear path . Overall i would say it's worth a play but the 5 star reviews are being won over by the world not the gameplay , Style over substance . 3 out of 5 .

Interesting, but not great

To keep this review as short and straight to the point as possible: Well written dialogs and characters, interesting world and story, complicated puzzles (at least for somebody like me - who usually does not play many games with puzzle solving)... - one start because none of yours decisions actually matters; there are one outcome and one ending... You might try to do things in a different way, but in the end the end you will always have the same result. - one star because of very VERY linear storytelling. For comparison - Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines also has linear storytelling. But in addition to that, there is a plenty side quest, you can explore your surroundings freely and talk to people, help them and stray away from the main story for a while... And your decisions, the way you treat others and how you do shit actually matters. Here - not so much. You go there you told to and do what you told to. Nevertheless, this is quite interesting game worth your time and money.

Bug Ridden nostalgia hit.

I played The Longest Journey way back, when it was first released. It was game-breakingly buggy then (my sister found a bug right near the very end of the game that literally stopped her from seeing the exciting climax of the aforementioned Journey) She was doubly salty considering that it was indeed the Longest of Journeys. I wasn't so fortunate, encountering a game-breaking bug which stopped me progressing in the game much earlier. But enough about the OLD version, how does the GOG version hold up? In a word; Worse. I found that I could only play for around 5 minutes each session before the game did that annoying thing only videogames can do, and hang on the same frame - stuttering it's last chunk of audio like a deathrattle before I was inevitably forced to close the program. I DO NOT reccomend you get this unless you know for a fact that the gods of PC gaming will allow your system to run this game.
