Great game, mediocre RPG
Finally, the game is available on a non-Steam platform, and I can play it. Thank you, GOG. I've put about 20-30 hours in so far, and I'm already seeing a few of the down sides that Oblivion had, amplified. As in previous Bethesda games, they've created an absolutely amazing world. Unfortunately, between the horrendous console interface, mandatory quest markers (no directions given in most quests if you want to turn the markers off), and limited options in dialog (Oblivion had more, Morrowind had FAR more), it's a rather marginal RPG. Yes, you can play "dress up doll" with your character, but a lot of it is meaningless. The perks are a sorry mess, and Attributes are missing; everyone has the same jump height, same carrying capacity (other than with perks), and other generic aspects, rather than each character being potentially unique and interesting from the start. It's still a good game, but it pains me to think how much better it could have been if Bethesda had focused more on choices and consequences, rather than making it so one character can do and be everything.

Finally no updates any more
The Steam version was really anoying me with breaking my mod setup after game got updated once a moth or so with changes I never ever noticed.

Finally on GoG! I replay this at least once a year with different mods. Great game.

I was hoping for this much earlier
The idea of Skyrim on GOG is great but it came a little late, though maybe not too late. If GOG had support for pre AE patch for Skyrim SE (1.5.97) this release could have been a dream come true for me. Skyrim is mostly played thanks to mods and a lot of great mods will only stay on 1.5.97 game version for an indefinite period of time. AE didn't bring anything positive for me but it successfully disrupted a fully functional and stable game with an outstanding mod list. For me personally at this point buying Skyrim again‚(and I already own it on steam and PS4 have over 1500 hours played and I have no intention of leaving that game anytime soon) without that support makes no sense right now. But it really has the potential to be a definite buy in the future if it is strongly supported by the modding community and GOG itself. And Bethesda... 11 and more years later, the game still has old bugs and glitches that are fixed by modders, so please just live it be and stop adding problems. Just let people have fun, and hurry up with The Elder Scrolls 6.
