Excellent version of an excellent game

Bard's Tale is a classic RPG - a must for any fans of the genre. But, like many games of its era (1985) it's not very accessible for modern audiences. This remastered version totally nails the sweet spot between making the game more accessible without losing the essence (and, importantly, the difficulty) of a mid-80s RPG. You cannot call yourself an RPG fan if you have not played this game. And this is the best way to do it :-) (And bonus - Part IV is about to come out!)

Excellent remake!

I have fond memories of the Bard's Tale Trilogy from playing it as a teenager on the C64. I loved them, but back then, I lacked the patience to complete them. Now, as an adult, it is like I am playing them again but the way they were always meant to be. I am close to completing the first module and I am already anxiously waiting the second volume! For me this trilogy is well worth the price. If you loved the original Bard's Tale, you will love this remake.

Masterful Remaster

This is how a remaster ought to be done- polish the look while staying true to the theme, add some convenience and technological features and interface improvements- I have to say it was a job well done and the fact I can play this over and over again with the improved sound and graphics and interface without the clunkiness of an emulator is just gravy! The sprites are the same just look better which is great and adds to nostalgia factor. I mean the hobbit that looks like a lecherous old dwarf ready to stab you with carving knife brings back so many memories! The surroundings are a lot more alive and being able to look around is a nice added feature. The auto-map- I earned my auto-map after years and years of drawing maps on graph paper... but if I wanted I could always go back to that- this is a great feature replete with notes, keys, and journal entries to help you stay on track. The customizable options. With legacy mode you can turn on all or some of the legacy features. For example you can turn off auto-save and "save anywhere" or turn off the auto-map. You can turn down the experience requirements for leveling up but at the expense of repeatable memorable battles for grinding. There are so many ways to play it you may just want to try them all. Right now my favorite set up is: Keep leveling legacy so I can grind the battles I loved to grind. Turn auto-map and save anywhere on. Those are just convenience perks for me. Turn on new inventory management. Turn on cross content features. This allows some spells and bard songs to be used in all three titles. The bestiary and other features are really cool to follow and keep track. It gives an incentive to the completionist in me to find those unique- though unnecessary- battles with one of a kind monsters. I am particularly happy with the controller support. You can do everything you need to do from the controller as it ought to be. A+, 5*, 10/10, :)

Oh hell yes!

Wow its the games I could only try to play as a kid improved, and made playable with a mouse in the manner of a modern game. This is so fricking amazing, I am so psyched and so grateful that not only did these come back, they came back only changed in ways to really really imrove them, I recomend this to anyone that enjoys dungeon crawlers, you owe it to yourself to buy this and play it, awesome, just awesome.

This is totally awesome!!

I wish i'd bought it sooner!! The dungeon in the southeast is not where I thought it would be though. I haven't played this in 30+ years so I'm excused I'd think. If you played Bard's Tale in the 80's, you'll be really surprised and how awesome it is now!!
