Lots of atmosphere, fails technically

I was going to give this game 4 stars, because the 'Sokal' atmosphere is - well - great, a welcome return to the weird world of Syberia. Just have a look at the Youkol market and try not to be impressed. I think I roamed about an hour in that place, because it was so much fun and so... alive. I was willing to forgive the odd camera positions that make you go into the wrong direction, the wonky point and click system, the mystery of the disappearing mouse after nearly every click. But then, nearly at the end, there were a few bugs too many. The game freezing after an encounter with the blacksmith with only Ctrl-Alt-Del to resolve the situation (restart the game - windowed - at the lowest resolution got me through it) or the one-way gate that let you enter a certain area, but it doesn't allow you to leave it afterwards. The ending clearly hints for a Syberia 4 to happen, hopefully it will not take another decade.

Good, but not great

- The game is buggy. Mouse pointer and active point disappear from time to time. Though bugs will not prevent your progression. - Controls are awful. You can point and click or use keys to run aroud. Actually you must use both to get to some points. - There is one location where you can lock yourself and stuck having to load saved game to continue. + The game is beautiful and has some spirit of previous parts. + Story line is quite interesting + Puzzles moslty make sense All in all I recommend you try the game, but be ready to have some fight with controls.

Beautiful, but that gameplay...

I felt very happy when i learned that I could know more about Syberia. I fell in love with this universe 10 years ago and I played most of Sokal's games and enjoyed them very much. The story, the characters, the music and the graphics of Syberia 3 are awesome. But 10 years later, I didn't expect such an excruciating gameplay in 2017. Kate is slow and hard to move, especially when the point of view changes. I quit the game twice while the ice crusher part. The maniability is a pain in the ..., and some of the voices are poorly acted. What a pity for this game that could be a great one. Anyway, i still advice you to try for experiencing the onirism of Syberia.

Never been this frustrated by a game

As a fan of the Syberia series, I was excited to dive into Syberia 3, but boy, was I in for a frosty disappointment. Zero stars, folks. Zero. The icebreaker puzzle. It's the point where my patience hit an iceberg and sank faster than the Titanic. The game expects you to switch gears on a machine using either a mouse or a gamepad. Easy, right? Wrong. The cursor disappeared more often than my motivation to keep playing. On the gamepad, the lag was so bad I couldn't react in time. I gave up and uninstalled the game. There are better ways to waste time, like watching paint dry. The puzzles are an absolute joke. Manipulating the mouse to open a door? Whose brilliant idea was that? Or how about twirling the mouse around like a DJ to unscrew something? Really? In a point-and-click game? It's like the developers decided to throw logic out the window and replace it with a sadistic mini-game marathon. And the story? Infantilizing. Instead of an engaging narrative, we're stuck performing tasks that are directly told to us and often make no sense (dive to open the gate? Really?). Most puzzles have their solutions lying around in the same room or nearby, which is just lazy design. Predictable and boring. Overall, Syberia 3 is a colossal waste of time and nerves. The puzzles are terrible, the controls are infuriating, the game is unoptimized and lags on an RTX 3080 (laptop), and the story is as deep as a puddle. Save yourself the frustration and steer clear. This game is an iceberg of disappointment.

(Un)Beautiful Melancholy - Part III

Well, it´s yes and no. What I mean by this is that "Yes", Syberia 3 is the worst Syberia game ever made and it has a lot of problems, but on the other hand "No", it is not as terrible as you might think. The biggest problem of Syberia 3 is the transition from the beautifully pre-rendered 2D graphics to low-res and low-poly 3D graphics. Due to this the original cold "steely" atmosphere is gone. It´s just a below average looking Unity game that lacks of proper PC graphics settings. There is no AA option and thus the game looks very jagged. Controlling the character in the 3D environment was not handled properly and it´s just a nightmare. When it comes to Syberia 3´s gameplay, the game actually works pretty well here. To be honest, Syberia 3 has one of the best and advanced puzzles in the entire Syberia franchise and it is the most puzzle oriented Syberia from the first three games. What I hate about Syberia 3´s system is the controls reminding of Heavy Rain. You know, when you open a door, unscrew screws or things like that, you have to mimick the real movements of your hand with your mouse. In my opinion such a system does not add anything to gameplay and it servers just like an annyoing gimmick. In addition, controling "this stuff" with a mouse is absolutely terrible. Playing with a controller makes these things better but no, thanks. Story-wise, Syberia 3 feels more like a Syberia spin-off rather than a direct sequel. That´s because Syberia 3 does not care about the previous two games and almost totally forgets Hans, Mamoths and their original goal. When you meet the shaman of the Yukols, the one from Syberia 2, she does not care about your travel to their sacred land. As if it even never happened at all. I guess the sacred land is not as sacred for them as we have been thinking all that time. 3/5 An Automaton with a Plan is the worst DLC ever. Short, almost no gameplay, a very flat story, no puzzles, nothing. 1/5
