Serviceable
A serviceable bleak action game that reminds me of Archvale, but smaller in scope, more linear and with more of a bleak horror atmosphere. It depends on your skill of course, but the game is pretty short and lasted less than 5 hours for me. The difficulty feels about "medium hardish". If you're not hopeless, you'll struggle in some fights, but you'll eventually get it. If you struggle a lot in a particular boss fight, you might want to experiment a bit with your equipment (you have 2 weapon slots, 1 armor slots, 2 boost slots and can swap among the equipment you've found in the game to alter your character build) and it might become a lot easier. For one boss fight in particular, I changed from a melee damage dealer to a ranger skirmisher and the fight got a lot easier. The regular enemies were ok, the bosses were good. You can find permanent upgrades for your equipment, but need to be a bit conservative with them, because they come in limited numbers and you cannot undo an equipment upgrade. By the time I got to the last boss, I ended up regretting at least one of my choices. The game has a "corruption" mechanism where you accumulate corruption each time you die, but the exact impact it has eludes me. I assumed it changed the ending, but I looked at the ending of a player that had far less corruption than me on youtube (he had almost none actually) and it was the same so... who knows... maybe if you have an absolutely perfect run, you'll get a sweetheart ending, but I'm skeptical. Otherwise, the game is relatively bug free. Two things I'll mentioned is that at one point, I died after opening the container for a permanent upgrade without picking it up and I lost the upgrade which aggravated me a little and the end "cinematic" got stuck in an endless loop requiring some finicking to get out of the game. So, its fine overall. I think there are better games in that genre, but its not bad and its short so it won't take too much out of you.
