Top Tier Star Wars Game

While this game is quite old, it is still one of the best Star Wars games ever made. While the story isn't amazing, the gameplay is something incredible many modern titles lack. Lightsaber combat in Jedi Academy provides fluid controlled precision that is unmatched in any other Star Wars game (aside from its predecessor Jedi Outcast). The multiplayer remains relevant today, with a very competitive and devoted fan base. While you will probably want to get a modern open source client to play (like OpenJK or TaystJK) with people online instead of using the original client GOG installs, what makes this game truly special is the amount of mods and full conversions that exist. From massive overhaul mods like Movie Battles2 or Jedi Knight Galaxies, which modify gameplay completely and are like new games to themselves, to new rendering engines like rend2 which bring modern graphics and techniques to this classic game, or even thousands of simple new models allowing you to play nearly any Star Wars character. JKHub is a great place to go for new experiences even if you've played this game before. This game also frequently goes on sale for less than $3 and is well worth the purchase since it opens up a world of really incredible mods. Plus even if there wasn't any modding, the original game is still worth playing through.

Mouse-flailing Lightsaber Maniac Sim

Choose your lightsaber color and hilt and stlye (single, double, two blade) and just go crazy. Be the crazy homicidal Jedi, you must young padawan. Pay no attention to the decapitated stormtroopers you run through... just pursue your destiny, you must. Just enjoy the free controls, you must and scare the stormtroopers and siths like the goodest jedi boy or girl you are, you must. "If you go full sith, die b, you must" -Yodank

Great game, even better modded though

This is a great game that I've loved playing for years. On Steam I have over 2,000 hours in it, but I mainly play a mod for it called Movie Battles II. I definitely recommend getting the mod for the game (it's a multiplayer only mod) as it completely changes the combat system and makes it infinitely more in-depth than ANY combat system I've ever seen.

Thru OpenJK for Linux

I played Jedi Academy in the early 2000s on my brother's old Xbox and liked it. I now play this PC release from gog.com thru OpenJK for Linux. When using projectiles you snap into first person perspective. When brandishing a Lightsaber you go into third person perspective, which adds a real action movie feel to the melee combat. Platforming and environmental puzzles make you use your noggin. The environments have alotta variety and fit the Star Wars aesthetic. Enemies are recognizable from the original Star Wars trilogy. Multiplayer can be experienced online, thru LAN, or against some very clever bots. Abilities can be leveled up after completing missions. Missions are mostly offered nonlinear. The only weak point is the passable story. Another 6th generation goodie now cheap with no DRM!
