Star Wars™ Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II continues the story of Kyle Katarn, a young mercenary that successfully infiltrated the Empire, as he embarks on a quest to discover his past and learn the ways of the Jedi. In order to protect the galaxy Katarn must confront his father's murderers, led by the Dark Jedi Jerec, and stop them from obtaining the mysterious powers of a "Valley of the Jedi", a focal point for Jedi power and a Jedi burial ground. As Katarn embarks on his journey to defeat the Dark Jedi he must also shape his destiny, by choosing to follow either the light side, or the dark side.
Mysteries of the Sith
Kyle Katarn's adventures continue five years after the events in Dark Forces II. Invading Imperial forces advance upon a quiet Rebel outpost, interrupting Kyle's trianing of a brave new Jedi, Mara Jade. First introduced in Timothy Zahn's award-winning Star Wars™ novel, Heir to the Empire, Mara Jade combines her experiences as a smuggler and Emperor's Hand with her apprenticeship as a Jedi Knight. Mara's training will continue in the field as she makes use of four new weapons and five new Force™ powers to secure supplies for the New Republic. Meanwhile, Kyle pursues what he believes to be his destiny as he searches for secret treasures in an ancient Sith temple. Will you uncover the Mysteries of the Sith?
It was a wonderful gaming experience. I can recommend it to anyone, who has no problem with the graphics. Personally I like the visuals very much because they are not irritating or sickening, but maybe I'm just old. Schortly after I played it through, I did it again. A truly rewarding gaming experience through as I think great Leveldesign most of the time.

DF2 (5/5) is still fun from the start to the finish with a nice coherent story and huge levels. MotS (3/5) improved colours and jedi powers are now must in order to progress but unlike DF2 it suffers from huge difficulty spikes and it is filled with plenty of not so obvious puzzles and hidden paths so you might easily get stuck.
Хорошее продолжение небезызвестного FPS во вселенной Далекой-Далекой. Если первая часть конкурировала с Doom, то вторая явно строит из себя конкурента Quake: никаких спрайтов, теперь это полноценный 3D-шутер. Для своего времени графика была продвинутой, сейчас конечно, глаз режет. Геймплейно сиквел не сильно изменился по сравнению с первой Dark Forces, а вот сюжетно шагнул вперед: лучше прописан характер главного героя - Кайла Катарна, история более локальная и личная, а вместо статичных рисованных сценок полноценные ролики с участием настоящих актеров. Последнее сейчас скорее вызывает улыбку, но для 1997 было круто и кинематографично. Также в Dark Forces 2 можно помахать световым мечом и даже есть несколько джедайских дуэлей! Правда, фехтование максимально простецкое и огнестрел зачастую куда эффективнее. В целом, как и предшественник это добротная игра, но советовать ее современному игроку непросто, во многом из-за дизайна уровней. Вообще, это можно сказать болячка LucasArts. Они могли в передовые технологии, броский художественный стиль и увлекательные истории, но вот с левел-дизайном для шутеров они перемудрили, что в первой Dark Forces, что во второй, что в вестерне Outlaws - зачастую слишком длинно, слишком запутанно, нелогично, хватает откровенно раздражающих мест - даже Doom 2 с поистине большими уровнями так не выматывал и не тормозил экшен. Местный платформинг вы запомните надолго, особенно с учетом местной физики, и это не комплимент.
Также в комплекте с игрой идет дополнение Mysteries of the Sith - в целом, все сказанное про DF2 применимо и к дополнению, разве что вместо живых актеров сценки на движке, и выглядит это, мягко говоря, не очень.
Если вы фанат ЗВ, то поиграть стоит, если нет, то лучше дважды подумать. Либо перетерпеть доисторическую графику и плохой левел-дизайн, чтобы добраться до жемчужин Jedi Oucast и Jedi Academy.

Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II still holds up pretty after over twenty years. Gameplay is alright for its age and level design is pretty good. Williams' music works so well with the track selections being top notch.
This game was a hallmark for having live action cutscenes featering the first lightsaber duels since Return of the Jedi. The acting isn't great but it definitely has more passion and authenticity than anything Disney Star Wars comes up with these days. The story is a bit contrived and a few occasions, but again, it has more passion and authenticity than Disney's Star Wars.
Mysteries of the Sith however is rather disappointing. The title is awfully misleading. It's more a collection of unrelated short stories, with the final one actually involving the Sith. Yeah, the Sith story is the most interesting with its atmosphere, but it's also unreasonably difficult, which emphasises the overall problem with the level design in the expansion. It doesn't have live action cutscenes like the main game, and most voice acting sounds awful.
So in short: Dark Forces II is a classic. Mysteries of the Sith sadly is not.
