Great game but dated
Works out the box so you dont have to do anything extra to get it running, i had originally bought this game on steam but to my disappointment could not get it running, works like a charm here

Not your typical GENIE engine game
i'm not sure can add any supplementary information better then that of the more veteran users here on GOG,the actual star wars fans or even fans of GENIE engine games in general. what i can offer is my own perspective as someone who fought a bloody war with retailers to get me an original hard-copy of this game before you fine people at GOG picked this up. if you have any doubts on why or if you should purchase this game: don't: this game is a pure master piece for anyone who is in to intergalactic combat,the RTS genre or even the wonderful yet slightly outdated GENIE engine games: you couldn't find any better space faring,laser shooting battle royal then this game and if your familiar with age of empires 2 and like the format by which it is presented then,i can't stress this enough: YOU HAVE TO HAVE THIS GAME. another importent tid bit i could offer is this: while most GENIE games like age of empires tend to have the same units for each faction,this game is a wonderful exception to this rule: if you play as the wookies,you are the wookies: citizen to units to architecture to special weapons: its all 100 percent authentic to the films and it applies to all factions: its a small minute detail but it changes everything as opposed to other GENIE games. all in all,i highly recommend this title: if your a star wars fan,an rts fan or nothing of either,it doesn't matter: this title is extra-ordinary and its a must have for any gaming effeciando

--An excellent RTS based on Star Wars--
SW: galactic battlegrounds plays it safe with an established gameplay ( similar to C&C, come to think about it) already seen in most of RTS games out there, but the manner in which does that is rather solid and expands just a little bit to give some ''fresh'' experience. Furthermore, its missions are rather diversified to give more tactical challenges to the players. Besides that, It's star wars guys! and the game does a remarkable job in immersing the player with it's enjoyable setting, story and soundtracks. On top of that, there is the clone's war expansion, which gives a 15-ish more missions to play and enjoy, with 2 ''new'' armies ( basically a re-skin of the old confederacy units and a new-totally-not-favorite faction: the clones!... and again some new individual units for good measure). So, to keep it short, a solid choice if you are fan of star wars or RTS games ( and if you are both: lucky you). only downside? I wished they could have created a more ''unique'' experience, with some innovative gameplay's mechanics, but as it is, is still a good choice! P.S. Aaaaaand as always, may the force be with you.

Classic RTS 4.5 stars
I know this is based on another RTS but I never played that, I bought the CD pack of this game and it's expansion a long long time ago at a Wal-Mart far away. This game perfectly blended with episode 1+2 for backstory and fluff, and there is so much to read most StarWars junkies will get their fill on backstory down to individual character histories. Even the in-game techs make sense if you read them. Resources make sense, the skirmishes and campaigns are all fun and it's just a classic great RTS. I played this more than Starcraft. Insto-buy moment I saw it because my discs are worn out. The only negative I can think of is air and space units maybe could have been handled better but remember this is a 2d isometric RTS not a modern title so overall it's a great gem. Did not age as bad as other games tend to.
