Best ST RTS game ever. Sadly this version doesn't come with the Armada trading card that the original copy did.

The Armada that KILLED Star Trek Armada
Despite Mad Doc Software's best efforts, even at the time of the original release - Star Trek fans were just not that interested in Armada 2. It had less re-playability than Armada 1 due to the lack of community made mods and I distinctly remember me, my friends and reviewers being woefully disappointed in the warping mechanic. I know warping faster than the speed of light is a large part of Star Trek but it just didn't make sense in an RTS setting. However this time around for this digital re-release, I'm changing my opinion slightly... Remember when Sid Meier's Civilization IV had 2 amazing expansion packs (Warlords, Beyond the Sword) and then they released that WTF Colonization expansion pack that changed the gameplay and somehow made Civ 4 less fun? Star Trek: Armada 2 is essentially that but instead of it being some off-shoot DLC for a popular strategy IP, it was the game that literally killed a Star Trek gaming genre.

Needs More Development Time
Given CDPR's history of releasing bugged games I shouldn't be surprised, but considering I'm running a fairly common Windows 10/Intel/Nvidia setup you'd think they'd have done at least some quality assurance before releasing. As it is, the game launches splash art then does not respond, i have to open a separate desktop to force close the application and unlock my screen. Unfortunately, compatibility mode does not solve this problem. Will revisit later, but for now I've refunded and will revise my review when and if the game can launch correctly.

Star Trek Armada has been one of my favorite games of my youth but this port is a disapointment since it doesnt even start.

It's a shitshow
I would love for it to have been a decent game. It's not. It's an inept mess. Word to the wise: Wait for a sale if you want to experience this trashfire. The Good: - Music and SFX are thematic, and Patrick Stewart's voice acting is always a pleasure. The Bad: - Technically incompetent mess. Crashes often. Units randomly ignore orders. - Pacing and scale are imbecile. Instead of ships being meaningful, you build hundreds. They build in 5-10 seconds each. It's like the designers saw another RTS and re-skinned infantry into Start Trek ships, without understanding the context. - Races are identical. Every race has exactly the same ship types and identical mechanics, just with different names. - There are no unit stats in the UI, and absolutely no way to differentiate ships. They expect you to build the prettiest. - The ships just stand still and fire at each other. You can order individual ships to either circle or cloverfield during combat, but you have to do it for each of the hundreds of ships you build. It's braindead. The Ugly: - No real AI; it appears to be a script that sends ships at you at random intervals. - No sandbox mode, likely because there isn't an AI to play against. The braindead campaign is all you get. - Resolution may or may not work. When it does, the max is 1280x960@30. The external utility does nothing at all. Launching the game on machines with multilpe screens breaks it, unless the screens are of identical size (the game opens on one random screen but indexes mouse position from another, resulting in offset input). +1 star because nostalgia.
