New Generation of Stalker

9/10 Good Old but new Game, some "anomalies" within the engine. Mind you, THIS IS NOT LIKE STALKER GAMMA! It is exactly like a good old Stalker Game, nice gameplay, interesting questline, buggy start for some. Good things: + Nostalgic gameplay with new graphics, animations and overall long desired fixes. +Quests are amazing, both the radiant jobs as well as the main questline. +Gunplay works best, sadly shotguns are not OP anymore. :( +graphics, music, ambience, campfires, all the things I ever wanted in Stalker. <3 +Brutal EVERYTHING. Was Hard back then, is slightly harder now, maybe even slightly unbalanced when it comes to mutants. Bad things: - Some players have problems with some bugs, or "anomalies", within the game, I don't have any major problems except the UE bonus quest not starting. :( - Half the hours spent within the game were wasted on shaders. - A-Life 2.0 feels more like A-Life 1.5 I tried to tweak in old games and managed to break it. Works like 4/10 times as intended, other times it spawns dogs or flesh in my area and wastes my entire ammo. :0 -WHERE IS MY MUTANT SKINNING?? I waste ammo on tanky pigs and can't even earn some koupons selling some radioactive meat? I know they drifted away from this feature back in the day, but many ppl requested mutant skinning, it makes sense to implement it seeing as contracts don't pay much, selling gear is not profitable, and quests pay less than livable wage in the Zone. Overall, amazing game, perfect return to glory for the saga, but some things require tweaking, some patches are already under way, some, like A-Life, require a lot of hard work. Highly recommend this game for all that desire a long hard look in the mirror while crying cuz you died 7 times to a dog in the first 3hrs of gameplay in Lesser Zone.

As of Patch 1.1.1/1.1.2 (Dec. 20, 2024)

As much as I had anticipated a sequel to the original trilogy, I was cautious about buying this game. Then I saw the patch for 1.1 and read what people were saying about the patch. It was convincing enough at that point. I have a 2080 Super, Ryzen 7 3700X, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM for any hardware context. The game has had some technical issues but nothing like I had heard about before. It failed to compile shaders on launch which 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 allowed you to skip if that happened but hasn't happened again. Sometimes while going to an area I wasn't in previously causes massive framerate loss but otherwise it's been stable enough to not be bothersome. It's crashed mid-game once on me, it crashed once or twice before getting into the game. A-Life 2.0 probably still needs updating but enemies don't just spawn in on me for every encounter. I have heard fights in the distance so it seems like it's working on some level. AI having consistently great accuracy despite having beat-up Viper5 SMGs has been my biggest annoyance and caused me to lower the difficulty from whatever the hardest was to the medium one. I'm about 20 hours into the game, doing a bunch of looting and side jobs. I've been to 4 major areas and fully explored about 3 of them as of this review. I enjoy this game a lot and unless the game design gets worse or they stop updating it right now, I don't see how it won't continue to be as fun as it has been. The AI should be challenging but on the hardest difficulty they are far too accurate and perceptive of you and it feels like a chore. As long as the fixes keep coming though, I imagine I'll be playing this for a long time. The cinematic animations and conversations don't feel like they are taking away from your agency to play this like a Stalker looking for loot. They happen for specific interactions and quest moments (usually the main story ones). Will update further if I find qualms with the design but so far, so good for me.

Great game for explorers

Just passed a dungeon that made feel like I was in the movie "I am legend" and loved it. I love to explore open world games and I feel at home in the zone. I also have a 10 years old system with a GTX 1660 slapped on it so I can only play 720p HIGH settings, to be honest is almost a miracle it even runs for me. Like all STALKER games is unforgiving, almost frustrating difficult so not for everyone but that makes it not a generic survival game but THE survival game that so many others titles tryed to be. My only complain is about the cost of gear repair that is so high I am forced to use bad/less powerful gear that costs less to repair or risk to run out of resources. I hope they reduce repair cost by 50% and any improvement in performance is welcome!

A wonderful game!

A wonderful game! It brings back the same feelings as 17 years ago! Amazing graphics, excellent gameplay. The experience of interacting with the environment is incredible. Dangerous enemies, vast spaces for exploring the zone! The game isn’t without issues, but they mainly stem from the high hardware requirements needed to utilize all the engine’s capabilities.

STALKER: New Vegas

Imagine you're carrying something very valuable through a very hostile wasteland, only to be betrayed by someone you trusted and left for dead. Now imagine that you wake up and start on a quest for revenge only to end up being a kingmaker. Sounds like Fallout: New Vegas, right? That's the basic premise this game shares with that one. But far from being an imitation of New Vegas, this STALKER game does what STALKER games do: give you a vast and weird world to survive and thrive in while allowing you to do the right (or wrong) thing or take a third option. VISUALS Outstanding but not without issues. Nanite comes into its own, allowing literally billions of polygons to be displayed at once though instancing. This is the same developer that boasted of a million polygons being displayed in the originals. However, the current version of the game uses software raytracing through Lumen, so you need a strong CPU to run it until hardware raytracing is added in a future patch. The game will also compile shaders every time you start, which gets annoying. The game also lacks optimization, but for now, there are several mods to fix this. SOUND Most of the sounds have been ported from the previous STALKER games, but I can't complain. GAMEPLAY Here is where I have some criticisms. Using quick-access items isn't intuitive - you 2 keys for 4 items; press x once to use item 1, hold for 2, press z for 3 and hold for 4. This is easily forgotten and I have used medkits instead of bandages by accident. There is a also selector wheel which is more straightforward. The menu doesn't make clear that you can rebind keys - you can by pressing the word "keyboard" in the menu above the myriad of hold-or-toggle options. Combat is similar to an ArmA game with controls for things like holding your breath while aiming. Actions such as using medkits take time, so you can't press the heal button in a gunfight. VERDICT Recommended, but be prepared to use mods or wait for patches.
