For co-op, two controllers are required.

In “Spells & Secrets”, you are a first-year student of the magic arts, arriving at the Academy of Greifenstein. Set in a world and time like ours, you are excited to live and learn together with your fellow students and professors at the impressive magical castle.
A strange incident on your first day throws the school into turmoil. It’s up to you to save the ever-changing castle and rescue your lost schoolmates. Use your spells creatively to fight off magical creatures, explore the school grounds and uncover the castle’s secrets to reveal the mystery surrounding it.

The game is heavily oriented around dungeon crawling and modifying an assortment of spells at your disposal. Each run offering the chance for random upgrades each time.
Pros- creative and fun assortment of spells. Love letter to the Harry Potter franchise that inspires it.
Cons- lots of juggling with spells. Having a huge assortment means upgrades are randomized each run, forcing more management than one can handle.
**minor gripe with dialouge being extremely heavy with exposition at times.
This is an interesting game and fun to play for short periods of time. It is a roguelike game, where you are expected to be defeated and then start a new run over and over, slowly getting further as you unlock more powerful spells and abilities. Combat is straightforward and initially very easy, but as you progress further, you need to start considering different tactics.
There are multiple spells to choose from, and you can swap them out whenever you need to, though you can only have 3 spells and a potion active at one time. Each spell has the ability to be given new abilities with artifacts that you find and can be improved by spending your experience points. You can also tame a companion to help you once you have unlocked the spell for that. Using a good companion can help make the fights easier.
There are many things you can unlock and upgrade throughout the game, which can help to keep the game interesting enough to keep fighting. Boss battles can be challenging, depending which boss you fight and what you have for spells and artifacts. For some of them, using specific tactics can turn a very challenging fight into one that is very easy. Take the time to learn how different spells work and it'll be rewarding.
An entertaining rogue-lite with a fairly light magical tone. I find most of the spells to be creative and I appreciate that potions recharge over time otherwise I absolutely would be hoarding and forgetting I had it.
Only real gripe is that I wish there was more effort put into the story and worldbuilding. It's possible I'm not far enough in yet but it feels like we didn't really set the scene properly before starting the adventure and the hints given by fellow classmates don't feel like natural conversation.
I like the tile system and how every single room has a puzzle, most of which can be solved multiple different ways, yet with solving those puzzles bing entirely optional(killing all enemies in a room, though, NOT optional). There are a lot of good aspects to it, with the constant need to reevaluate your approach based on the artifacts obtained each run.
There's a bit of a lack of depth to matters, IMO, that holds it back from greatness, but it's well worth the play.
During the fight against Vex one of her clones got stuck. I was using levitation on the original Vex and clones appeared as she received the spell. It seams that it's one clone who receive it instead. It stayed frozen mid-air for the whole fight (not doing anything though) and I couldn't deselect it. I managed to finish the fight but then the ending dialogue with Vex was blocked too. I couldn't get to the next lines, nor the menu and ended up forcing the game to shut down.
