More forgiving than King's Quest
In terms of older Sierra adventures that are fun for newcomers to play, it's hard to beat the Space Quest series when compared to something like the first three King's Quest games. While the early King's Quest games emphasised the appeal of an open world to explore, Space Quest was more linear which actually helps make them to be a less infuriating experience. The first Space Quest is probably the weakest of the three with respect to unforgiving gameplay mechanics common to many early Sierra adventures such as searching for objects when there are no hints to their existence, dead-end states and the need to use "save scumming" to progress. The difference with Space Quest though is that at least the puzzles are generally logical and there aren't any ridiculously narrow walkways of death to navigate... at least until you get to the second one. The games get progressively better with Space Quest III being the best of the bunch thanks to a memorable main theme thanks to Supertramp's Bob Siebenberg, better graphics and audio, and puzzles that are more forgiving for those that are new to retro adventure games.
