A good time -- mostly.
Although Slave Zero ultimately outstays its welcome, the game is sufficiently different to make up for a lot of its flaws. (n.b. I'd be less emphatic about that first comment, if it didn't have the sort of end-boss encounter that makes you wish physical harm upon the designers responsible.) HOWEVER! There's a lot to like about the game. The developers did a really good job of enabling you to stomp around a futuristic city in a big robot suit; jumping around, slamming into the ground, wielding massive guns, and generally pounding the hell out of anything that's less awesome-looking than yourself. If that sounds like fun, you're going to enjoy this. I've played it through a couple of times, and found the gameplay fun and addictive for a good while. Eventually it all gets a bit samey, but you can mitigate that by taking a break from the game for a while. It also had fantastic box art, with a big vertical fold-up panel forming a double-height image showing off the scale of your Slave unit. Very cool. 3.5 stars.
