Gather your party
Lead a band of broken heroes through challenging turn-based combat scenarios as you cleave, blast or stealth your way through deadly enemies of all definitions. Equip your heroes using a modern inventory system, fulfil objectives through quest logs, read journals to discover hidden secrets. And if the action is still a bit too hot to handle, auto-resolve to bypass conflict entirely.
Prepare thyself
Set yourself up for the journey ahead by crafting and cooking from a slew of distinct recipes Choose your character, select their stats and build out a party from a series of diverse allies, each with their own skill-set, agenda and personality. Decide between a dozen classes and varied backgrounds, levelling up to 20 while customising your spells and equipment to suit your style.
Venture Forth
Set in an unforgiving world with lovecraftian horrors and choice-based dialogue, your story will take many unexpected twists and turns. Living life as a mercenary, you’ll need to roll the dice to determine whether you fall prey to certain peril or escape grave danger.
Celebrate Yesteryear
Uncover the grand schemes of the Gallian Empire and explore the vast expanse of Freymark and the Outer Isles. In SKALD: Against the Black Priory, you’ll experience this richly illustrated world of authentic pixel art, built from thousands of hand-drawn tiles and images using a palette inspired by the legendary Commodore 64 computer. Optional CRT filter for true retro aficionados also included.

Very cool turn-based strategy RPG.
Very, very obviously inspired by HP Lovecraft's work.
Pixel art is great. Music is great. RPG mechanics are very well designed, very tight. Deep without being overly complex.
I enjoyed the game all the way throughout. I think the only thing that bothered me was the ending. It wasn't even that I really hated it, it just left kind of an empty, bitter taste in my mouth.
I'd still recommend this for the most part.
...in what it wants to accomplish (even cut)
Basically, a solid (C)RPG, which story throw me off at the start (if you are looking for more ''fantasy'' story, this ain't it) and really enjoyed the experience (and the ending, which was not only fitting but perfect for the particular genre this game takes inspiration to).
Gameplay wise, the combat system is well-though (albeit having a tad boring fights, but that's just poor planning) with enough class differentiation (for a game that uses a system similar to that of D&D)
Furthermore, I think the devs intends this game to be like a ''Neverwinter winter Nights'' sort-of base game, with modules that could expand the experience further.
So, why the 4 stars?
The base game is... well, not unfinished (actually, the devs managed to close the main story in a more than decent way) but it got cut, and it shows near the ending (I believed the map could, at least, be twice more... populated with things and quests to do) and, as said before, the combat is a little boring (with some questionable boss fights).
Still, a remarkable experience, both traditional in mechanics and compelling in story telling. Recommended.
SKALD lives up to its promise: story-rich, engaging and challening adventure. Where other CRPG feel monotonous and superficial, SKALD feels intriguing and personal. You can't go wrong with this game.
The music and effects are great, and the pixel style adds a heart-warming sense to this, otherwise, very dark story.
