flickering screen
screen flickers in hight rate both in menu and in game it makes this great game kinda unplayable any fix for that?

I almost went insane myself...
...because of the horrendous movement and control. Also, I realised adventure puzzle games are not at all for me. And I got the game for free. That said, I don't want to duck a bunch of points only on personal preference, I'll give it three stars because it is a well loved game which indicates to me that the aficionados consider it worthy and because it seems lovingly made. But, I found puzzles to be very tedious with a few exceptions, those being the most alien puzzles, where you just have to be creative istead of spending ages to figure out which exact pixel to click. The game aesthetic I found very lovely. Sound and voice acting are quite good, haven't got any beef with that but the dialogue is a bit obtuse at points with some dialogue branches not taking into account things previously said and similar. The story was quite impressive and competently told. The absolute biggest gripe that I have with this game is the atrocious movement, that really drops it in my eyes in a big way because of all the exploration you have to do, even when you know what you are trying to accomplish, let alone when you are stumbling around. That made me give up on the puzzles after a point and I just kept checking the solutions to save myself the tedium of walking to and fro in search for clues. I can definitely recommend if you are a fan of puzzle adventure games, but if you, like me, think this is going to be like the other beloved 2D isometric games - alas, it's not. In that case maybe skip this one.

Ehhhh.
After reading all the great reviews on GOG and noticing it was on the GOG Starter Mix, I decided to purchase this game and give it a try. After reading the description, I was expecting something fantastic. To be honest, I found Sanitarium to be a somewhat mediocre game. It's not bad by any means; but it's not particularly good, either. Essentially, the protagonist awakes in an asylum and seems to have all these insane, crazy journeys, presumably in his mind, that have little to do with the main plot besides a symbolic connection. The puzzles weren't particularly interesting, the controls were clunky, and, while I found the individual adventures to be somewhat entertaining, the main plot didn't come together well and the plot twist at the end was a bit of a disappointment. I can see how some people would love this game; it has a fantastically creepy atmosphere and it IS undeniably interesting. I enjoy adventure games, and I enjoy stories involving insanity and psychology, but to be honest, this one just wasn't my cup of tea. I often found myself somewhat bored, and parts of the game, particularly the second chapter, are somewhat disturbing. Overall, Sanitarium is a decent game, but if you want a good adventure game (or even a good psychological thriller), you could do much better. The promise of exploring a man's insanity is enticing; it's too bad that Sanitarium does not come through.

Warning: Unplayble under Win7!
Hard to rate - the game seems to be quite a gem, considering its age! But I think it's unfair by GOG to sell the game NOT telling us, that it is UNPLAYBLE on a Windows 7 system. No matter what copatibility mode you are using, it keeps crashing! My rating: **** for Sanitarium - * for GoG (in this case)
