It's pretty

Ruiner is a Twin-Stick Shooter and... it's ok. Combat feels good when you kill someone, but the process of getting there with bullet sponge bosses isn't great. Sometimes I wouldn't have been sure I'd hit a boss if not for the giant health bars. Combat got repetive about 3 hours in, the game took 5 hours to complete. The feeling of repetition in combat is also due to fights locking you in arenas for too long with no real danger to you. Kinda torn on whether to recommend this honestly, the main draw is supposed to be the combat and that has its issues. I would still recommend this if you're drawn in by the art style like I was. Just don't expect a story that will satisfy you

Decent game

Not really a fan of this genre but the game is fine, it's pretty good at doing what it's trying to achieve. If you're into twin stick shooters this is probably the perfect game for you. The Linux version might not be nearly as polished as it could right now but that might change in the future.

If you waiting C-2077, buy this game

Addictive gameplay, cyberpunk setting with a lot of details and atmosphere, stunning design. Unfortunately, the OST is.. meh.

Wish I could keep the Blades!

The game is entertaining although short, but for the price, I wasn't expecting a long game. However I could see them extending it, if they had the budget. It's fast paced and I enjoy that so much! Being a worker and not having time for too many slow games, a fast paced action game à la Hotline Miami was refreshing :D The thing I really found myself wishing for: being able to buy blades and keep them forever! Throughtout the game I found myself relying more on blades than on the guns, so I enjoyed all of the blades the game offered me for a limited time (durability). The default blade (Nerve) is not as entertaining nor as cool, so for me that's what's missing in Ruiner.

nostalgia redux

I am not a fan of the genre per se, i.e. Hotline Miami, but Ruiner positively evolves the formula with a fluid skill-tree, that can be swapped on the fly and greatly influence the outcome of a fight. However, what really drew me into this game is its overall presentation through setting, art, graphic design and music. It is clearly inspired by some of the most notable cyberpunk & anime stories of the 1980s and 1990s, culminating in a very nostalgic yet refreshing mix. The seedy and gritty hub area was a particularly intriguing setting in lore, design and music. So much so, I'd be very happy about a much more RPG-focused type of game in this world. The graphic-design is oppresively bold, red and flashing, fitting this game like a tailored suit. The cherry on top is Susumu Hirasawa's Paranesian Circle being part of the official soundtrack.
