Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood

One of the greatest tragedies of contemporary gaming is that games like this aren't being made anymore. When we had glorious, beautiful 2D maps instead of disgusting cartoonish 3D (although the character icons and some models in this game are kinda cartoonish in both voice and appearance, but hey, you can't have it all). Seriously, the maps in this game are so gorgeous I would have them painted as murals on the walls of my house if I knew anyone half-competent for the job (at least the half of the house I wouldn't do in Desperados map murals). There are some gripes to be had with it - the game rewards you for not killing enemies, rendering Robin Hood's bow and arrow pretty much useless, and the inability to choose your character's equipment means that Robin will have a non-lethal staff in the sherwood missions, and a lethal sword in the cities, again making the titular character the one you're least likely to use unless the game outright requires it of you. And the only reward you get for using the non-lethal approach is more useless generic merry men which fall into three types, only one of which being somewhat useful until you get Little John to join the gang. The only other use for the men is throwing them into the meat grinder once you get to the siege missions. Most of the 1 and 2 star reviews for this game are just giving it shit for not being Commandos. Because what would you expect from a game about a medieval English folk-tale hero other than Commandos, right?

Моя любимая игра, несмотря на то, что это "Commandos" для детей. :) Я проходил минимум 5 раз, и продолжаю в нее играть. Игра сделана с душой, с очень красивой ретро-графикой, хорошим сюжетом интересными героями. Для тех, кто хочет усложнить прохождение: попробуйте пройти все миссии, никого не убивая, а не только 1 подобную сюжетную миссию. Любителям Робина Гуда и Коммандос очень рекомендую. Русский язык к игре найти в Интернете не составит труда, и он отлично устанавливается на эту версию. P.S. GOG - Спасибо за скидку! Вы лучшие :)

I would like to thank GOG for make this game run on W10 smotly as i remembered back on WinXP.

Plays like an isometric version of 'Thief', but you also control a handful of characters (little John, Marian, etc. I owned this and replayed it for years. My only complaint...after 50 or more replays, is that I've memorized all the levels and there's not a 'Robin Hood 2'.

Man! People are gonna tell you how this is like a Commandos type game etc. but it's actually way more than that. It came from the makers of Desperados - a already better version of Commandos. - Meele combat mechanism - only game of it's kind to have that - Shielded enemy and crossbow firing from behind, Heavily armoured knights - Hideout and small economy system for items - Ambush Mechanism - Great music - Fun, cheesy plethora of dialogue from the character and enemies - Difficulty settings can turn it into as unforgiving as the other games of this genre if not even harder - More climbing and jumping from roof to roof - Beautiful Medieval settings - Has an interesting story - Colourful characters and abilities - The intro Missed opportunity: They could add custom weapons/armour shop with the money system they introduced. Overall an unique fun game, just get it please.
