Populous™: The Beginning

I was initially disappointed because the game locked up in full screen mode at launch. However, I was able to get the game working after setting the resolution to 1920x1080 60Hz in windowed mode. After installation you will find a link to the "DirectX Settings" application in the start menu. Use it! (Alienware m15 R4 2021, Intel Core i9, nVidia 3080)

...No longer unique. As a God simulator (where you actually get to play a God), the Populous saga was unique in a way that didn't allow you to order around directly your followers, but only to influence them, by casting different spells (which the most common was as simple as raise/lower ground - and even if it was that simple, that spell had a lot of functionality). Now, although definitely not being a bad game (I recommend it, actually, even not discounted), the third instalment of the saga gives you the role of a would-be God shaman and the ability to control directly your people... basically, every RTS ever (just with a Godhood twist), with simplified gameplay choices and a confusing, bad camera. Still, I believe it is a good game, worth getting. Perhaps even great if you are into the more 'traditional' rts genre... buuuut, for me, although marketed as a 'God simulator', the feeling of 'godhood', the uniqueness of gameplay mechanics of the first two were lost in the process of giving Populous: the beginning a more modern (and commmon) gameplay, so to speak.

I just drooled a bit and then bought it.

5 star game it's an old game that stays fresh with new maps. I would buy this time and time again if it was released on iPod, iPad / Xbox arcade content downloads I would again and again purchase this game to pump money to the developer to make more if I were rich I'd defiantly buy rights to this and make a fresh game but make it the same flawless title populous the beginning I have it always will and will always play it from time to time rant over

I loved the game back in the days and just now bought it here, but it doesn't even start. After hitting the icon, I can choose the screen resolution and acceleration mode, but when I press "launch", nothing happens. Since it says that Windows 8 is supported, I expected at least something, any indication of an error happening. We'll see how it goes.
