Populous™

This was one of the games on my first computer an Amiga 2000. It was the breakwater of the god game genre that would spawn games as varies as Sim City, to todays Thirst of Night and Castleville. And it's a fun game even today.

I remember this one from way back. I understand some of the lower starred reviews, since the graphics don't hold up compared to pretty much any game out now, but for what it was at the time, and for what it still is, I believe this game deserves five stars for its own sake. On its own merits, it is a fun world-building game, with fun powers and a simple premise: to conquer the current map. If given a chance, this game is loads of simple, old-school fun. The GOG version works flawlessly on a Mac, and I still enjoy this even today.

This game, back in the times when you were not able to get out of a game but by switching off the computer, was a complete improvement of the gaming world. The isometric, the godlike powers, the artificial intelligence of the followers (individual), as well as playability itself, made this a game you can not live without if you want to learn about gaming history, despite its commercial success.

Okay.. It's old and the sequel may be more interesting for "mordern' tastes but give it a try it's gonna make you feel like you're still playing with an Atari ST ... Good old days when I was a kid ...

I loved this game back in the 90's-and I still love it now :)
