Pirates! Gold Plus

No good old game collection is complete without this one. However, I doubt if it is still playable. I remember steering ship with joystick on C64 and DOS sounds were not attractive, never played this on DOS.

I played this game like crazy back when it was new. Got me interested, too - I swallowed a truckload of books on pirates back then. I wonder if it will run on Linux using Wine.

We just cant play it. Make a save in a town than leave town and...you will be hit by black screen issue. Even often saving cant help at all. I should say that it is wasted money...but i paid around 1 dollar for it...and even with this i just wasted around 30 minutes trying to play it. Games like this with bugs that prevents to play should not be sold to customer even for mentioned dollar! I wanted to bring my old memories back but in fact, you better buy the newer version Sid Mayer's Pirates for modern computers with 3d grapgics. It just works!

1.Says it includes the 1987 pirates! and the 1993 pirates!Gold....idk what they mean...doesnt include shit (ive played both...back in the day) 2.the graphics hurt my eyes.The NES version of Pirates! had pretty good graphics in my opinion...and the graphics of Gold where amazing!These??not so much.They make my eyes bleed 3.i started up the f*cking thing...and i bursted out laughing when i got to the starting swordfight...bursted out laughing indeed...both at the graphics and the...."mechanically deep" (sarcasm) swordfight.Best button mashing game ever 10/10 IGN...no srsly the controls in the swordfights are fucking hilarious.You just swing your sword like some drunk asshole.The animations there are pretty shitty too you try to parry....guy swing his sword a bit...you get hit afterwards.In the end you just mash the attack buttons till you win. 4.sailing...ive never seen a game where to steer my ship i have to either left or right click... *claps rlly slowly* doesnt work half the time the game just ignores some(most) clicks.WHY CANT WE JUST USE THE FUCKING ARROW KEYS DAMNIT!? 5.bugs...plenty 6.no save function...yet you can still load a game...PERFECT 7.Security questions that if you answer wrong you lose all your cannons and lots of your crew...for...ummm...reasons...Guess they sabotaged our ship... :| NO 8.Crashes...not so plenty but it does crash 9.Sound effects.Lets just say that the grunts that the enemy captains make when they get hit turn me on.The sound for the cannons and the swords are alright..average at best tbh 10.Overall quality...Less than stellar...more like shit but whatever PIRATES!GOLD PLUS PLUS? RLLY? ID SAY... PIRATES!GOLD MINUS

Pirates! Gold for the Sega Genisis was the Holy Grail of video games back in the day. Blockbuster Video was the only place where I could rent it and man those were a great 5 days filled with hours of sailing, looting, and trying to find your lost family members/burried treasure. This PC version is a very close proximity to the Sega version, but you really miss out on the refinement that came with a console version. This version is a little clunky on movement as it just feels like the interface lags across the board. Trying to turn your ship real quick and avoid cannon fire? You're probably not going to make that turn. Trying to thread the needle with your ship to avoid the coral to disembark? Odds are you're going to lose a couple of ships. Don't get me wrong, you would hit coral all the time in the Sega version, but here it's mainly do to the sluggish keyboard and mouse controls and not because you're trying to push your luck. The town interface is pretty basic in this version. You move your mouse to the building, click, and bam, you're at the merchant's, the bar, or the mayor's house. It's not bad, and in fact it's quicker than the Sega version, but there was just something really cool about walking around town in the Sega version and hearing your captain's shoes clicking on the streets of the town. The music in this version is also not as refined and robust as the Sega version which is really disappointing as the music in the bar was easily one of my favorite bits of music in a game. It was just the music to Drunken' Sailor, but damn, I would leave that playing sometimes while doing my homework it was that good. Again, if you're expecting this to be the refined console version that was an epic adventure game you might be a little disappointed. But, if you're looking for a stripped down version for the PC, give it a go. I would suggest maybe you just skip this one just go emulate the Sega version and complete the Ten Great Pirate Quests!
