Pine is an open world action adventure simulation game. Set in the beautiful world of Albamare, you take on the role of Hue, a smart young adult who will have to explore, trade, and fight his way through a vibrant world filled with creatures much smarter than humans.
Their Story Becomes Yours
As you're looking for a new home for your tribe to settle in, you'll have to engage with the large-scale ecology of Albamare. Prepare by exploring, bartering, talking, crafting and fighting in six different biomes, with and against a diverse cast of species that will not simply help you.
A Struggle for Survival
In Pine, things will happen across the open game world even without your involvement. All organisms are alive and will try what they can to survive. You can choose to befriend a species, fight alongside them, or you may also to attack them, steal their food or force them to abandon their current habitat. All of this will make the species move across the ecological spectrum.

It's mostly an open world crafting/exploring/combat game with an interesting dynamic faction mechanic. Problem is everything in this feels so unpolished. I know it's an indie, probably from kickstarter...but the combat...oh boy...it's a disaster. I just cannot get over it. People are comparing this to zelda...idk if these people have ever played a good game in their life, coz this is not it chief. It's buggy, the camera is terrible, your character clips through enemies and if you target lock the enemy you're gonna get motion sick because of all of the above. The game is also pretty lifeless and exploring feels boring, the story is interesting tho and the enemies are cool, but from other reviews it sounds like variety is lacking. Maybe if they give it the Nomanssky treatment and keep patching it one day it will be good, but right now it's a hard pass.
I was very hopeful for this game following the project, but I simply can't recommend it in its launch state. Here are the issues I have:
- Camera control feels very slippery. This causes it to feel unresponsive and made me motion sick after a few minutes of play
- No graphics settings. All you get is a "good/better/best" option, resolution support is poor, no ability to control things like anti aliasing (something I found the game really needed at 1080p on the best settings)
- Very bad performance. I have a 1080ti with a 4790k and on the best settings I was only able to achieve 50fps and on the worst settings I got closer to 80fps. This game is very CPU heavy so be warned about that.
- No ability to invert look axis on controller. Frankly I'm surprised this setting is not here, I'm a weirdo that plays inverted and the lack of the option is a huge downside
All my complaints are technical complaints, I was unable to play the game because I got too motion sick in the first few minutes. I regularly play VR titles with locomotion systems without issue so in my opinion the issue lies with their camera controller.
Very hopeful the team is able to address the technical concerns and I look forward to coming back later to see the progress.
I love this game. It looks simple, but there is some depth and good unpacking of the story and how you continue in the game, which I didn't find in similar games. Also the graphics look simple but it is very polished world which does make sense.
I don't require story in games, but I do require very good background story, on the other hand I don't like total sandbox games, where I don't know what to do. I don't like complicated puzzle games or long platformers, this game has something from everything, so it is my middle ground.
What surprised me as somethig really good:
1. tutorials - this is the only game where they do have advanced tutorial UI pop up system and I'm totally OK with it, because it is always in the right time and there is nothing extra added to waste your time.
2. cutscenes were immersive for me - I didn't expect in such a small game to have them.
3. biomes+music - there are different biomes which does look interesting, but also it does have inner logic - like every village has shop, resting places, storages and cool chief and work they are good at visible around, they are set in area which does make sense for them, and all done in unique style, nothing too big, or too small
4. NPCs are really cool even without voiceacting, only some kind of mumbling. They are really funny for me.
5.puzzles are not too much complicated, but some of them do take time to finish, only camera is sometimes clunky in corners, but it is OK 90% of the time.
I didn't notice any PC problems while playing this game, but after the latest patches, I would say it is really smooth to run around.
I saw negative reviews for not absence of complicated features but I'm OK with such level of polish for 20 euros.
I still didn't finish the game, but after unlocking the first vault and how the story still does continue, how I unlock new mechanics with milestones in main quest, I'm really in love with it.
This game is frustratingly on the edge of being good. It has a certain charm and some unique game aspects. But then, jumping puzzles. I despize jumping puzzles and they are main line quest requirements for this game. I particularly despise buggy jumping puzzle and this game has plenty. I got though the Observatory without quitting the game, barely. Then I got to the radio tower. At only 8% game completion I could see the future full of more and more stupid, time consuming, buggy, pointless jumping puzzles. So I quit.
